Drudge Takes The Oscar For 'Clueless'

(snip)

As manufactured media "news" goes, the right-wing Internet curmudgeon's effort to scuttle Chris Rock's appearance as host of the Oscar telecast Feb. 27 hasn't gained much steam. Which explains my cheerfulness.

(snip)

Clearly, Drudge feels differently. The Feb. 13 edition of his Drudge Report featured a screaming all-caps headline: "HOST CHRIS ROCK SHOCK: ONLY GAYS WATCH OSCARS; ACADEMY MEMBERS ALARMED OVER CHOICE OF COMIC." The "exclusive" report describes how "concerned" some conveniently unnamed members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are over the choice of Rock as host.

(snip)

Drudge probably wasn't laughing in 2003, when Rock blasted him for reporting that DreamWorks honchos were pressuring the comic to refrain from criticizing President Bush before Rock's comedy "Head of State" hit theaters. Rock's response:

" . . . If I see Matt Drudge, I'm going to take my red-blooded American foot and put it up his un-American for trying to disrupt the opening of my movie."

5. Exactly
And I hope Drudge never meets up with Chris Rock, I believe he will be sorry if he does.

hris Rock Welcomes Time Delay
Fri, Feb 18, 2005, 02:02 PM PT
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Although Oscar telecast producers have thrown their support behind Chris Rock to host the award show, they're still going to work with a "safety net."

Rock, known for controversial humor peppered with expletives, isn't bothered by the five-second delay to ensure decency on ABC's Feb. 27 Academy Awards show.

" a safety net. You know, you're a trapeze artist ... you welcome the net," says Rock, in an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes," which will air on Sunday, Feb. 20.
