Where's the outrage ??

<snip>
The thing is, a government that is not scrutinized by an energetic and adversarial press is a government that is not accountable for its actions. A government that is allowed to create its own reality is a government that can get away with anything.

So where is our outrage?

Frankly, the only thing more galling than the brazenness with which the White House abrogates the public's right to know is the sheep-like docility with which we accept it, with which we become complicitous in our own hoodwinking.

When the history of this era is written, people will wonder why we didn't challenge its excesses, why we didn't know the things we should have.

1. 'Cause everybody's watching American Idol.
...and they know it.

2. I've been trying to figure it out for 4 years now. Doesn't help that the
Democrats keep caving on almost every issue or problem.

3. So generate some outrage: write you local papers, national papers,
newsmagazines, white house, your representatives, etc.

Remember, WE are the media.

4. Creating their own reality is
deciding that they didn't have enough evidence to bring some of the Gitmo detainees to trial, so they would just imprison them forever!

I was apoplectic over that one. People should have been marching in the streets, but nary a word. I swear....I think the govt. is putting stuff in the water. No other explanation. Absolutely none. :eyes:

5. I really think that television is the "opiate of the people"
People ARE upset, and even outraged, totally disgusted, and many distraught. But they/we all feel like each of us is all alone, what with all the Hannity/Rush/even Brian Lamb kind of "balance" around our heads. Americans don't gather in small groups as much as we used to a generation ago. Where that still happens, like city council meetings across the land, resolutions against the war, for example, have been passed.

But people are un-used to filling the streets these days. So all the emotions are just simmering. I can't tell you how frustrating it was to be a part of the millions in America (in addition to the rest of the world) who marched resolutely against the war, mailing Congress continually, and the whole effort ended being so INVISIBLE. Not that it was unimportant, but it took a strong person to keep at it.

We need our own cable network. I don't know why it is taking so long. AAR is helping, though only computer users have access to it here in Chicago. But people need to see things happening on TV in order to stir them to action.

The WSJ numbers posted in another DU post tonight show the real numbers that I have suspected since Nov 2. Only 34% are solidly behind Bush! Some 60% of us, including 25% of the Republicans(!) want the Democrats in Congress to put the brakes on Bush! THAT is where the country really is.

And now, with the Gannon business breaking, as well as the fear of a draft and all the servicemembers coming home...there is reason to hope, my friends. The "buyers' remorse" is growing. And eggs and shoes are flying through the air at these crooks.
