An apocalyptic thought...
But is it possible that this tide of fascism is so strong and so organized in our culture that nothing we can do at this time can change the tide? That perhaps the only thing that will change the direction of the waves is a disaster of tsunami proportion? Change will not come from political opposition alone but from some external event of explosive nature so traumatic that even the fascists cannot deny? No one has the power to predict what that might be. It is not definable.

2. if you wait for that, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy
the longer we take to remove these guys the more expensive and time-consuming it will be to repair the damage to our society and reputation in the world.

Knowing this bunch, they could take your disaster and use it as an excuse to round up their opponents.

3. Yes
I tend to think of mainly the US when I think of our current position, but we're far from alone on this planet and other people, in other countries, are aware of what's going on. The world seems so small to me lately.

4. It is certainly not beyond the realm of possibility
People often only come to the party after a serious wake-up call. Perhaps we are at that point.

5. Feeling like a Jewish inhabitant of Berlin in 1934?
It could be. But it's our responsibility to fight against it.

Only time will tell. But let's not let history write that it happened because we didn't object.
