St. Louis media gossip site slams DU, upcoming conference
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 01:52 PM by BTFSTL
A long-time corporate radio suckup named Mike Anderson, on his St. Louis media gossip and commentary web site, STLMedia (http://www.stlmedia.net) posted a commentary on the front page concerning the May 13-15 National Conference for Media Reform in St. Louis.

In it, he posts a link to DU and calls this site, Al Franken and Amy Goodman, among others, "fascists."

Mr. Anderson is nothing more than a right-wing suckup who has no job in radio at all. He's 57, a Vietnam vet and rabid right-winger. There are message boards on his site (no registration needed for most forums), but if you choose to upbraid him, he may take the posts down.

After all, as he puts it - "My board. My rules."

Do with this info what you will.

ON EDIT: When AirAmerica started, he regularly slammed the network and said it was doomed to failure for having a bad business model. Regular posters on his boards include a southwest Missouri prick who calls himself "ohplease" and regularly rips those who don't agree with him. Another person calling himself "Sid Dithers" regularly rips into others with his (mostly) weekly "Dithers Blitz." He has his own forum on the site.

I've posted on there myself as "STLmediawonk" but haven't registered. I've tried not to stir the pot up there but this may be an exception.

Also be forewarned: He logs ALL IP addys on the posts. Why I don't know, but it may not be good for DUers.

Again, do with this what you will...

3. Actually...
I think we need to DU his boards and site simply TO bug the crap out of him.

I'm also gonna post this at a few IMC sites too...it'll be great to see this guy get all flustered and stuff.

5. I agree....Ignoring him is the one thing that would hurt him
the most.

Frankly, I do not waste one iota of my precious time at any rw site. they are going to lie and believe each other's lies even if God Himself came to earth and told them the truth.

You cannot shame people who have no shame.

These people will NEVER wake up because they don't WANT to. They prefer a diet of Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, Coulter lies.

6. Yep - in St. Louis, May 13-15th
I just read an ad for this conference in The Nation and was thinking the same thing! :)

The lineup looks great: Amy Goodman, Al Franken, Naomi Klein, and more that I can't recall at the moment.

Go here for more info:

4. That Fascist Anderson doesn't know what a fascist is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism

The word fascism has come to mean any system of government resembling Mussolini's, that:

* exalts nation and sometimes race above the individual,

* uses violence and modern techniques of propaganda and censorship to forcibly suppress political opposition,

* engages in severe economic and social regimentation.

* engages in corporatism,<1> (http://www.britannica.com/eb/article?tocId=219369)

* implements or is a totalitarian regime.

7. Just trying to keep this kicked...
It's kind of important to me because I'm from St. Louis *LOL* and I work in corporate media.

I want other DUers to see this and let Anderson know what kind of moran he is.

10. That's for sure...
But it used to be a lot worse with it was called stlradio.net

Mike has experience in radio, but his last job was at KTRS with a guy who calls himself Frank O.Pinion (real name: John Craddock), who's show consists of the same fart jokes and double-entendres every day when not slamming "FM classic-rock disc jockeys" and other groups and people he dislikes.

He's currently out of work and runs his own company called The Pickering Companies in suburban Maryland Heights, Mo., one of the more right-wing cookie-cutter suburbs in affluent northwest St. Louis County.

There's been a few times I have agreed with him on local topics, but it's mostly a right-wing haven. Frank Absher, who provided him with the info, is about the same way - he longs for the days of old-style KMOX. He used to write a radio column for the St. Louis Journalism Review but was so abrasive he was asked to leave, as I understand it.

Again, folks, do with this info what you will...

11. Kicking this back up....
...as I said earlier, because of my own personal interests (I'm from St. Louis and I work in corporate media).

Besides, I think people need to take a look at least one pathetic person's take on it.

14. Looks like a washed up has-been radio guy with a waste-of- time website...
...and such a fine command of the language he had to use "asshat" 4 times in his little rant to BTFSTL.

It just goes to show, anybody can put up a website.

Not really worth bothering with.

15. In all fairness to him
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 05:30 PM by BTFSTL
...in my original posts and subsequent follow-ups, I made several misstatements about him. I was going on what I thought I knew, which, according to Mr. Anderson, were inaccurate.

I've e-mailed him apologizing privately for the misstatements and offered to apologize publicly, which I'm now doing here at DU (Mike, if you see this, please accept my public apologies for any misstatements I made yesterday in this thread.). But I also said to him that I felt his comments about DU were off-base and angered me very much.

I'm pretty slow to anger most of the time; there's been stuff on his own board that made my blood boil in the past, but I chose not to get into it. God knows I wanted to, but after thinking it through, I decided to take the high road.

Unfortunately, his original post Friday sent me over the top and I said I few things I'd like to have back.

I'm not apologizing for being what I am, though. I'm proud of it. I believe in it. And I'm not backing down one bit from that.

No one can make me feel bad without my permission. And I'm not giving anyone that permission at all.
