http://news.softpedia.com/news/Napster-is-free-again.shtmlAfter failing with the latest ad campaign, for Napster emerged new problems. A few days ago, hackers posted on several forums the news they managed to crack the
Napster service so that they could get music for free and keep it by burning hundred of CDs. Even more they published full instructions on how to get this done.
What lead to this pot of gold for music lovers was Napsters free trial of its new Napster To Go service, which will enable users for a monthly $15 fee to download as much music as they want and transfer it to a portable device. They can also pay 99 cents for each track they want to burn to a CD.
The whole action is based on installing the digital music player Winamp and then adding a secondary program to Winamp, by which the digitally protected files can be converted from one format to another that can then be burned, unencumbered, onto CDs. This plugin don’t work with the latest version of Winamp.
The "rental" system for digital entertainment, which has the support of Microsoft giant and a few other important companies, is putting on a real battle on the online music store market, and Napster to Go is getting a lot of cash to make it big. Only one thing did they miss, and that was enough to make every hacker a bit happier, for thwarting the intellectual property protections of the service is as easy as a free software patch.
