Bush says that "Intelligence is our first line of defense", but
his Secretary of Defense says he doesn't trust the intelligence.

Some evidently didn't get their talking points in order for this one. I actually heard them comment about this on CNN. Is this the beginning of a new line of infighting and can it lead to an implosion?

Unfortunately, I think it is and the ones that will actually suffer will be the American people, because instead of it improving our safety, the infighting will end up making us less safe.

2. I think what he means is
when they fuck up they first use the "We had bad Intelligence" line first to defend themselves. After all that's what they did after 9/11 (turned out not to be true the intelligence was there". That's what they did after not finding WMD (turns out not to be true intelligence was distorted by them). Blame the intelligence community first then declare the information secret so the general public can't get at it. A new neocon tradition...

3. I wonder what they've promised Negroponte in exchange for
being their next sacrificial lamb. No wonder no one wanted this job. It's going to be a lose-lose proposition.
