4. There was a joke floating around at the time
Remember when it was revealed how much His Chimperial Majesty was going to pay Turkey to allow the US military to use its border as a staging area?

The joke was, when Saddam Hussein heard he said, "Hell, if I would have known, I would have let them use IRAQ!"

6. But then Bush cronies miss out on the skim...
There's a better scam for the Friends of Bush than just buying Iraq from Hussein...

Recall Vegas of old? The Vegas conceived and launched by Bugsy Malone? Moms and pops dumping their mortgage payments into the slots while sons and daughters twittered away their college tuitions at the black jack tables. Times were good, then. Every evening two husky men would calmly walk into the count room with two large satchels each. Each bag was then filled to the brim with cash. It was called "the skim". They said thank you, then left in a very business-like manner to deliver the skim to the true bosses.

In the mafia, life is great if you're a good earner for the bosses; you get to continue (to live).

Then the corporations took over and legitimized the theft.

Today, the Boosh administration represents "the good earner" for the bosses. As long as Bush skims the cash flow for their benefit, he stays in the seat of symbolic power. First there's the obvious: Two trillion in tax cuts that flow inordinately to the top 0.5% (our true ruling oligarchy). But then there's the adventurism of the Afghani and Iragq wars. Every "smart bomb" exploded over there is another that has to be manufactured and paid for over here. From the huge tax flows (present and future) that fund these wars, a very select "friends of Bush" club skim huge profits -- the Halliburtons, Becthels, Carlyle Groups, GE's, and a few more. As long as Bush remains a good earner, this group will keep him in power.

Call it plundering plutocracy; call it friendly fascism -- whatever it is, it's here. And that sound you hear is the iron heel of Jack London's book smashing down on the backs of you and me.

7. we could have paid him 50 million and set him up in a nice castle . . .
somewhere in one of the old Soviet republics . . . and saved a ton of money and countless lives . . . as well as not contaminating vast areas Iraq with depleted uranium and other assorted nasties . . .
