Let no-one refer to "the mainstream media" any longer....
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 10:01 PM by ChairOne
They are NOT mainstream. They are, depending on the context, either the "corporate media", or the "conservative media".

Referring to them as "mainstream" suggests a least-common-denominator of fairness and intelligence. They do not possess either. They are thoroughly corporate, and thoroughly conservative. It is time we referred to them *correctly*, and with terms that describe what they actually are.

EDIT: Corrected abysmal writing...

11. I see both, depending on context....
When they do stories talkin bout how good outsourcing is, they're the corporate media....

When they refuse to do stories about Gannon/Guckert, they're the conservative media (protecting its own)...

10. I call them story tellers because everything they say is fiction.
The whole Bush administration is a carefully worked piece of fiction. None of it is true. It's just too bad that what they do does affect us in the real world, unlike a book, whose story stays between the covers and out of our reality.

17. I like it, but it doesn't help with the *framing* issue.....
... that is, "state run" doesn't distinguish between Democrats and republicans - I think that distinction is kinda important...

Also, "conservative media" serves to recognize the history of the term - the beginnings were of course "liberal media".....

I like "state run", but I just don't sese it being used by politicians on tv and radio - that's more what I'm after...
