Bush campaign tactic: Use Democrats' words and claim they agree with you.
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 05:09 PM by blm
And now the Bushies are campaigning for their agenda by using outofcontext quotes from FDR, Clinton, and Moynihan to promote Bush's SS.

Using the statements of Democrats is an established TACTIC of theirs. They even come to DU using any statements made by a Dem that help them.

It helps them in TWO ways. They get to make their plans sound more reasonable and they make the left angry at whichever Dem's statement is being used.

Things aren't always what they seem. Dems aren't monolithic in their thinking and there will always be statements that make us cringe, or when taken out of context, even seem traitorous.

But, the real intent is to divide us. They know we don't stick together in lockstep the way they do and consider that one of our strengths. Except Rove's idea has always been to go directly AFTER the greatest strength and make it a liability.

They know Dean is a moderate with the passion of a lefty and can bring the party together. They will use every issue thay can to prevent that from happening.

Be careful. Because they will use our differences against us more than ever right now.

Bush trolling for votes from Dems at the same time some want DU Dems to attack Dem lawmakers for anything they say? I am not a coincidence theorist.

Let's be civil in our correspondence and in our pleas to Dems in congress. If we attack a Dem lawmaker with a nasty onslaught it might push them in a way we really can't afford. And that is EXACTLY what Rove expects.

2. I couldn't agree more
The Rethugs have to go back to Democratic greats of the past in order to get their talking points. (That's partly why they are mis-using FDR's Social Security quotes.) The Rethugs kow that the Dems own the SSI issue and they are going to be trying to pick off Dem support for their 'reforms; that are actually trojan horse items designed to wreck the program.

These people are completely amoral and ruthless. We cannot aid them in their desire to use Dems against each other. (Divide and conquer.) This will only aid Rethugs and destroy Dems.

3. I agree
They are trying to "divide and conquer" and we can't let them. We need to have a little faith in our Dem leaders and not tear them apart in a knee-jerk way. I've said it more than once: we don't know what's going on in D.C. like they do, and we have to give them credit for wanting to promote our Dem values. Direct your anger at Bush--that's where it belongs. Anyone with flaming hate attacks on any Dem leader should be suspected.

4. An excellent post. I'm giving it a reccomendation.
The rethugs will do anything to try to play on any divisions in the Democratic party, and will try to create ones that aren't already there if they can. For a perfect example of this, check out this other thread.

Alot of people don't seem to understand that being uncivil with other Democrats is just playing into the Rethug agenda. When we're civil with each other, even when we disagree, we're thwarting the Rethug aims.

Just something to think about.

5. Thanks...I hadn't seen that post before. I just noticed that the last week
there has been a concerted uptick in posts that encourage Dems to turn on each other, especially on Dem lawmakers.
