"Liberals are the sworn enemies of religious Americans."

This news release just came across on the MoJo Wire.
See if you find it hilarious or infuriating....

"" The third quote is my favorite.

Rev. Sheldon on ABC "World News" This Weekend

Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, Founder and Chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition, was interviewed today for a story which will run this weekend on ABC World News Tonight. The story concerns liberal Evangelical Jim Wallis who has conducted training for liberal members of Congress and their press secretaries on how to speak "Evangelical."

Rev. Sheldon told the ABC interviewer:

"Mr. Wallis and the Religious Left are trying to train liberals to speak like religious Americans.

"No matter how well you train a wolf to say "BAAAAAA", it doesn't change an important fact -- he is still a wolf.

"Liberals are the sworn enemies of religious Americans."

Rev. Sheldon also said:

"Evangelical Christians do not believe God is on our side but we listen for His voice to make sure that we are on His side.

"Liberals don't care whose side we are on. They want to keep religious people on the outside."

2. AHHHHH, MY HEAD EXPLODES AT THE DOUBLESPEAK!!!!!
Sorry for the caps, but this quote just blows my mind:

"Mr. Wallis and the Religious Left are trying to train liberals to speak like religious Americans."(emphasis mine)

combine with these two:

"Liberals are the sworn enemies of religious Americans."

"Liberals don't care whose side we are on. They want to keep religious people on the outside."

All the emphasis is mine of course, but he contradicted himself from the fist statement all the way to the last. So what is the religious left, a bunch of self hating Christians? :wtf:
Not to mention that not all the religious left is Christian to begin with, we are by and large diverse, much more diverse than the Christian Right, so what they hell is this "Speaking Religiously" crap?

And given that my brother is a Religious Fundie I guess I better go swear that I'm his sworn enemy...

Nothing is too outrageous for TVC to say.

12. As a Christian.........
I have to say that this modern day pharisee doesn't speakfor me at all. I'm so sick of people like Sheldon claiming sole proprietorship of Christianity. Frankly he and his brethren have created their own version of Christianity that above all else, cherry picks Biblical texts that fit their world view.

14. "Listening for His voice"?
Rev. Sheldon also said:

"Evangelical Christians do not believe God is on our side but we listen for His voice to make sure that we are on His side.

OK, Lou, pay attention! Here's His voice (King James version):

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

And remember, "neighbor" includes people you don't like:
Back in Bible times -- Samaritans
Here and now -- lllllllliberals.

So stop breaking God's Commandments, Lou!

A self described Evangelist, he recently appeared on The Daily Show. Jon liked him a lot. Here's the clip:

20. Does he presume that evangelical Christians are the only religion?
Seems to be what he is saying. I am a church going argumentitive (but polite) liberal atheist. My church is a recognised religion (although Texas tried to ban it). It is not an evangelical Christians church. Am I my own sworn enemy?

I am a Unitarian Universalist. I am a Humanist. I am an Atheist. And I am a liberal Democrat. My religion has just as much a say in the process as Mr Sheldon's.

24. Sorry Lou
In the Church of the Brethren, we let our yes mean yes and our no mean no, so we don't swear by anything.

But yes, I am the enemy of an ideology that strains out a gnat and swallows a camel; that neglects the poor and the needy and caters to the wealthy and the greedy; that heaps ever greater burdens on the most vulnerable persons in our society and yet doesn't lift a finger to help them.

If that describes your ideology, Mr. Sheldon, then I am indeed your nemesis and enemy.

26. We all know what Jesus said to do to one's enemies....
bomb them, kill them, mock them, and do anything you can to marginalize them. I think that was in the Sermon on the Mount, or something like that.
