Hack let's them have it!
"That’s not the case in Washington, where the White House and the Pentagon are run by civilians who have never sweated it out on a battlefield. Never before in our country’s history has an administration charged with defending our nation been so lacking in hands-on combat experience and therefore so ignorant about the art and science of war.

Now the increasingly flummoxed Bush team is stealing the page on Vietnamization from Nixon’s Exit Primer, coupled with the same deceitful tactics he used to get us out of the almost decade-long Vietnam quagmire: telling lies...

...All that blood, sacrifice and billions of American taxpayer dollars went for naught because politicians hadn’t worked out the endgame before Round One. And then their solution-without-honor was to lie their way out of a no-win war.

Thirty-five years later, President Bush told the nation that Iraq had nine fully trained combat infantry battalions. Just as he was proclaiming the prowess of the Iraqi army, a major in the Iraqi Training Command told me that the soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, when committed to their first battle, threw down their weapons and ran. “Not sure where the president is getting his info, but we have only one battalion that's good-to-go,” he said."

1. God bless Hack.
I love it when he's on AAR. Plus, you gotta love a guy who called Rummy an "asshole" and was proud of it.

3. On AAR??? Wow, I've missed that. I would love to hear him on AAR.
I have a lot of respect for him. I dont' always agree with everything, but he strikes me as one of the more principled (truthful, honest, pro-troops) folks around, and I value that about him greatly.

Something else I value about him. Once upon a time he had a photo of a GI shaking hands with Hillary Clinton with the other hand, hidden from view except to the camer, giving her the finger. I emailed him and said that I didn't think that was appropriate to have on his website no matter what people thought of her personally she was still a Senator and deserved more respect than that just for that reason, AND that disrespect for women in the military is rampant/epidemic and that kind of photo didn't help. He wrote back and without fanfare agreed with my points and removed that photo! Now AFAIC, THAT's a man! :D

4. 40% of the Iraqi military are AWOL on any given day.
That stat was reported about two weeks ago and then dropped as is there practice. FAUX and others report things ONCE and then we never hear it again. Late, they can say that they reported it. Yeah, one time.

5. I am glad to hear that the Colonel
has been on AAR.

The Colonel knows his stuff, is a no bullshit kind of guy -- and is exactly the sort of person that you want in charge when the shit hits the fan... If it's possible he'll bring your ass back home in one piece.

But the Colonel is no actor or politician and he doesn't get as much play in the media as his military skills, knowledge and vision would seem to demand.

The Colonel is also a long-time, outspoken advocate for the enlisted man -- and for military reform.

..And he's been ripping these Pentagon fools a new one.

Too bad more people aren't listening.
