Message from Dean on DNC website (Plus: send your feedback!)
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 11:48 AM by Skinner
A message from Chairman Dean

Today your representatives elected new Party leadership. But more importantly they endorsed the idea that our Party must always be led by the people — because your participation makes the Democratic Party a powerful force for change.

Our success depends on every single one of us taking responsibility for our Party's future. We have to commit to an active role in the political process. And we have to grow the Democratic Party in every single state so we can protect the values that bring our Party — and the vast majority of Americans — together.

We have new leadership and new energy. And thanks to your hard work and Terry McAuliffe's solid leadership we have enormous opportunities.

Please read my plan for our Party — and send me a note about yours. Together our work will make our Party stronger. Thank you.

Chairman Howard Dean

34. My message to Dr. Dean
Dr Dean:

Having supported your candidacy through the primaries, I felt that your voice alone was the one that rose above all others to carry our message.

However, we as Democrats have have our message blurred by the other side since the Reagan Administration. As such, our ideals get a slanted treatment from the controllers of the media and the quizling reporters.

The latest payola scandal and the "Jeff Gannon" incidents reaffirmed that their message get out easier. Simply put, we are losing the PR battle.

The best thing to do with our party, Dr. Dean, is to come out swinging and never let up. I believe we can retain out principles and our values, all the while adopting their playbook. I am not resorting to lying. I am resorting to doing the "pull no punches, winner take all and the opponent is not just the opponent, but the enemy" attitude the Republicans have used since Watergate.

Dr. Dean, I believe we cannot be a successful party trying to alway take the high road. Sometimes, we need to suck in our pride and attack them the way they mercilessly attack and ravage our positions.

The days of the high road ended with "Swift Boat Veterans For Truth." You, as DNC Chairman, need to take the reigns and go after this administration and EVER Republican the way they do to our guys. Continue digging for Bush's AWOL evidence, or Delay's influence pedalling and corruption. Continue looking to uncover EVERY piece of sleaze you can on the Republicans.

The days of high road are over. Please, for the sake of the party, understand where I am coming from and please do whatever is necessary to ensure that a President like the one we have now is never allowed to run the country again.

it's time to rat-fuck (to use a phrase from Watergate) these people the way that these people rat fuck us all the time.

8. Just saw his acceptance speech on C-SPAN! That is the kool headed..
guy that used to be Governor of my state. He sounded very much in control. Not as the the MSM depicted him in turning up his "lapel" mike and turning down the volume of the crowd that he was attempting to speak over.

Dean has the intestinal fortitude to help move the grassroots into trees if we support him.

"1. Show up! Democrats should never concede a single state, a single district, or a single voter to the Republicans. We must be active and compete in all 50 states and work with the state parties to build a true national party."

I will now announce that I will be leaving my "independent" status, and, will be behind Dean and the Democrats. Though, I have been quite active over the last four years, supporting Democratic candidates and causes, I feel a need to become even more engaged.

Thank you, Governor, for your service to Vermont, and, you will have my support in the upcoming battles that you will become most pivotal in TAKING BACK AMERICA !!!

attacks, in attempt to discredit his leadership capabilities.

From "Biography" (Link: http://www.biography.com/search/article.jsp?aid=10102632&search=Howard+Dean

"Governor. Born November 17, 1948 in New York City. Dean grew up alongside his three brothers and attended high school at Saint George's Boarding School in Newport, Rhode Island. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1971 and his M.D. from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1978.
Dean was a practicing physician from 1981 to 1991, during which time he also became actively involved in politics. A democrat, Dean was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 1983, where he served until 1986. He then served as Vermont’s Lieutenant Governor from 1986 to 1991 and as Governor from 1991 to 2002.

By leading Vermont with firm fiscal discipline, Dean paid off an inherited $70 million deficit for the state. He also succeeded in guaranteeing health coverage for children and signed into law one of the country’s toughest managed-care consumer protections. However, Dean's governorship is best remembered for the passage of a civil unions law in 2000, which gave same-sex couples the same rights as heterosexual couples. In 2003, he announced his candidacy for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination.

A member of the Congregationalist church, Dean resides with his wife, Judith Steinberg-Dean, and two children in Burlington, Vermont."

They will slam Dean as a "LIBERAL", though, historically, he was able to turn around the deficit of Republican Governor Snelling and demonstrate that a Democrat can be more "fiscally" responsible that a Republican. Politicians in Vermont don't win 5 gubernatorial elections in Vermont unless they are doing "right" for the majority interests of the electorate.

I desperately wanted Howard Dean to be our nominee in 2004. He wasn't.

I desperately wanted John kerry to become President in 2005. He didn't.

I desperately wanted Howard Dean to become DNC Chairman today.

Do you think he might have his ear to ground a little more after that little incident with overworked fake incident with the microphone. The scum pirates and rest of the corporate whores will be doing everything in their control in trying make him look bad again.

The next time could turn the tables though, and well actually, I will be kind of betting on it

(I wouldn't even be too surprised if a good portion of his motivation comes from the feeling he is needing to get some payback)

I too wanted Gore to not only win in 2000, but to actually take office! What a concept...I'm not so sure about 2008, but let him give it a shot. And it's fabulous to have the good Dr. at the head of the party! I am more hopeful than I've been in a good long while, like since Nov. 1, 2004.

21. My Feedback
Finally, HOPE! I am thrilled to have Chairman Dean at the helm!

There are many issues that need to be on the priority list however, finding a way to guarantee us that our vote is being counted as we intended has to be number 1.

All the efforts we put forth towards candidates will be worthless unless the ability to manipulate votes is stopped.

Representative Conyers has been the lifeline for many of our hopes, please work with and support his efforts.

39. THIS IS A KEY MESSAGE -- Please help make this heard
Dean knows a lot about the voting machines issue, but he still doesn't seem to understand that SOME of the elections we are "losing" aren't elections we are actually losing.

He needs to be convinced -- send him links if you've got them. Send him your take on the situation. We've got to make him hear it. He gets it -- just not completely, but he of all people CAN, and will if we keep on it.

Please. We'll never take back Congress or the White House if we don't fix this, and I don't think we can fix this if our Party Chairman and key players don't get it. NO ONE I KNOW OF, not even Conyers, really and truly sufficiently gets it.

26. I am not a young person but
I support Dean. I think that the democratic party has to confront the Nazi republicans. I also think that the moderate republicans have to also. I saw a commercial that was vicious and dishonest telling the people of RI they should make Chaffe vote to privatize SS. It was awful. It was in black and white too boot. I despise the president and his henchmen. bush makes the Mafia look respectable.

41. that Youth thing re Dean was always overblown if not an inaccuracy
Every Dean event I ever attended, every Dean event I ever saw on TV (and I saw as many as I could get hold of), and every REPORT of Dean events I didn't attend or couldn't see had his supporters all ages, all races, all political persuasions, all economic categories, etc., etc. I don't know where that came from, UNLESS reporters got a look at his youthful HQ staff perhaps and judged from that? But even there, there were plenty of really old people (like me, and even older!) at HQ as volunteers, so I don't get it at all.

37. My jumbled email to Dean
Congratulations, Dr. Dean!

I am so excited and energized that you are going to lead us.

I had reregistered from the Green Party back to the Democrats so that I could vote for you in the primary and after you lost, I went back to the Greens (No, I didn't vote for Nader) On Monday, I am going to register as a Democrat again.

I couldn't agree more that the Democrats need to campaign year-round. Just having a local office available for meetings, for movie nights, for socializing with other progressives and a source for progressive news - a library of books, magazines and videos that can be checked out but that the Patriot Act can't access who checks out what would be a tremendous party-building and outreach tool.

I believe that this country's citizens (we are *citizens* *not* "consumers"!) don't want to see the country become the country that those who have hijacked the republican party want us to be.

I believe that they are a small but vicious minority. Michael Moore was right when he said we are the battered wife and they are the battering husband. I also believe that we are most in danger when we prepare to leave.
But there is no other way. We have to stand up and say "No"

We need a national education on bullying and we need to open everyone's eyes.
In some schools here and in other countries, bullying is discussed in grade school and children are educated about how to not be a bully, how to recognize when someone else is a bully and how to not allow that person to get away with it.We need to give Americans a crash course in bullying. There are already many online sources people can go to to educate themselves - we merely need to point the way.

Next, we need to expose the "troops" that the right wing uses to send out their message of hate. There is something very wrong going on. It's not grass-roots - it's astroturf. We need to pull the curtain back and expose the machinery so that the main stream media will not be so craven, so that progressives will not think that these people actually represent any significant part of the US. I think that even we don't know yet how manufactured this message is. We are starting to see how some have been paid to write and some "reporters" are plants - there's much much more, I am sure of it.

We need free and fair elections. California is poised to be subverted by the republican party - they ran Kevin Shelley out of office on trumped-up charges and are about to install a republican - so much for nonpartisanship! While this new choice may be a moderate republican, he is also a cahmpion of redistricting in California. There's no way to redistrict in California in a fair way and have us end up as anything other that Democratic, because the republicans are stratified from the democrats so the republicans have something more up their sleeve. I am sure that includes rigging the voting machines. The democratic party cannot lose California! This is an emergency and the Democratic Party MUST take this seriously!

We need to break up the media monopoly.

We need a law that says free speech is free but paid speech is considered advertising and there must be truth in advertising. Opinions can still be aired since that is what free speech is, but anything stated as a fact must actually be true or needs to be retracted or the license gets pulled.

We need to reinstate the Glass-Steigel law. We need to protect credit unions and provide free checking accounts for poor people. We need to raise taxes on the richest 1-2% - back up to a 90% tax bracket. The obscenely wealthy have proven that money is dangerous in their hands; they must not have so much of it, for the good of the country. We need a wealth tax. We need to increase corporate taxes, we need to stop corporations who incorporate outside our borders from getting tax benefits from the government.

We need a law stating clearly that corporations are not persons. If all men are equal in the US, then how do a group of men get enhanced rights over those outside their group just because of a piece of paper?

Failing that, we need to extend jail and the death penalty to corporations. Jail would be suspension of all activities for a specified period of time. The death penalty would be the break-up of the corporation with all assets going to the victims.

We need to protect our lawyers and the rights of citizens to sue corporations for malfeasance.

The Democratic Party should support Sheila Kuehl's bill for single-payer health insurance in California to the fullest extent possible. Other states may need to compromise, but we shouldn't have to. It will be am example of how we will be able to save money and extend health care to people not currently covered. I am the owner of a small business ( I have 2 employees) and I desperately want this bill to pass. The employer-paid payroll tax pales in comparison to the amount of money I have to spend for Blue Cross for 3 people ($1000 a month) and worker's comp on top of that ($5,500 a year) This money could be better invested in improving the business's equipment and I could afford to hire another employee.

Finally, we need to waken to the fact that beating the republicans is rather easy. Whenever they say we shouldn't do something - that is what we must do, at least until they know we are on to them - then, when they say"please, please, please, elect Dean chair" - we know that is their worst nightmare. Whoever they are trying to "kill" - the way they tried to kill your chances, the way they "killed" Kevin Shelley - those are the people we need the most and we need to back them up. You proved too resilient for them, it's too late for Kevin Shelley, but they are pointing us right where we know we need to go - they are guilty of vote fraud or they wouldn't have gone after Shelley - he's the only one who stood up to Diebold and took them to court over a stolen election.

Sorry this isn't more polished but I had to get my thoughts down now. Will write more later.

Love,
Dani
