Man accused of planning mass Valentines Day Suicide on Yahoo Chat Room
Saw this story and thought, well here's a great excuse for the administration to start looking into American's and Canadians computer usage and then arrest them on false pretenses!

Suspect allegedly used Web chat rooms
to solicit participants in U.S., Canada

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - A man used an Internet chat room to try to set up a mass suicide on Valentine’s Day involving more than two dozen women across the United States and Canada, authorities said.

“Our primary goal is to try to locate where these endangered children might be,” Evinger said. “We need to investigate where these other computers are. Hopefully we can intervene if anyone still has the notion to follow through with this.”

1. The article says he is being charged with solicitation for murder.
What is that? Is it really illegal to tell people on the net you are going to kill yourself? I mean, it is sick, but aren't they responsible for what they do?

2. Remember
In England there was a law (dunno if it still exists) that stated that the penalty for a suicide attempt was death. I still think about this every now and then.

4. He was recruiting others apparently and they say one mother
said she was going to kill her kids before she killed herself. This guy is obviously a whack-job but I wonder about the authenticity of the story in all honesty. Seems to me THIS is a wonderful EXCUSE to start arresting the members of the "suicide group" and charging them with some obscure crime.

Stories like this often turn out to be complete fabrication's and I suspect this one might be as well. Something to distract and an excuse to arrest people is the last thing I want to read about right now. I have been waiting for some "terrorist Internet plot" to break as an excuse for the thug's to start "controlling the situation."
