Ooooh, HUGE LIE spewd by Gannon! And another "mean libruls" lie!
HUGE lie:

On CNN, "Gannon" just claimed that Talon News had 700,000 users. But according to Alexa, it's ranked 640,000 on the web. That is, there are roughly 640,000 sites on the web with more traffic than Talon News.

For comparison, Daily Kos, with 365,000 average daily visits, ranks 3,365. Instapundit comes in at 6,918, with about 171,000 average daily visits.

Talon News isn't 700,000 users strong, obviously.

"Mean libruls" lie:

Today on Blitzer's pathetic interview, whiny JD Guckert claimed that people (bad evil liberals) had followed him to church.

Anything's possible, I suppose, but his real name was first revealed to the world Monday night at 11:54pm, after the week's prime churchgoing day was long over.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/2/10/184759/717

But then, as the world other than America now knows for a FACT, Gannon/Guckert is in good company with such PROVEN LIARS as Condi Rice.

Rightwingnuts are LIARS. Period.

2. To be fair, 700,000 users does not mean daily users
He's still a schmuck but we don't need to call him on stuff that may not be false.

8. They can count each unique IP hit as a reader
And reader can be synonimous with subscriber. Not saying he isn't playing games. Just that he has an out if someone tries to call him on it.

12. But if Talon had 700,000 unique hits they wouldn't be listed as #640,000
on Alexa.

14. Is Alexa counting daily or life long histories
Oh sure he is spinning like crazy. But the art to spinning is to lie without lying. Find some numbers that support your argument or seem like they do and flaunt them. He is guilty of dissembling, but not quite of outright lying.

i'm listening to the whole thing right now. sickening!

he hcearly said "700,000 people, per day".

when asked about stuff like political affiliations, comtributions to candidates etc, and how that can't be verified without confirming his real name, he says "you'll just have to take my word for it".

30. He outright LIED; "700,000 daily subscribed readers"
Wolf: were you there in the briefing room on a daily basis to change the subject and give softball questions to Scott McClellan? or were you there as a real journalist to get the story?

Gannon: Talon News is a legitimate conservative online news serive. My questions are things that my readers, 700,000 daily subscribed readers want the answer to; I created the questions, nobody fed the questions to me. Scott McClellan certainly never knew what was coming. He knows, he certainly knows...

35. here's what Alexa says about rankings over 100,000

Boosting your Alexa Traffic Rank
It is fairly easy to artificially boost your Alexa Traffic Rank by installing the Alex Toolbar and browsing your site extensively. Doing this on a regular basis can get your web site an Alexa Traffic Rank near 100,000.

*****Alexa Traffic Ranks above 100,000 are not considered reliable because of this fact.****

22. I Posted This Last Night
I heard that 700,000 and my old webmaster's mind went catatonic.

700,000 means nearly 35,000 "hits" per hour...surely something that would bog down the best server. With that kind of traffic, "Gannon" would be on par with Drudge, and we know who Drudge is.

"Gannon" attempts to think he's gonna be protected by his right wing and White House puppetmasters. Time will tell if that happens. At least Leslie Wolfman is following Mehlman's script just as written.

3. I bet he's right. I'm sure Talon has had 700,000 unique visitors ("users")
Especially in the past month or so.

But your point is well taken, the Alexa rank is probably a better measure of overall popularity.

4. Actually -
the lie is much worse. Guckert claimed 700,000 SUBSCRIBERS; which implies people have paid to read Talon News. Talon news does not have a subscription service or paid advertising - two things a legitimate news agency possesses. That's why Guckert was denied a press pass on the Hill - Talon is fake.

5. Has his religious affiliation been named?
In all the details i have on this guy, although I know he claims to be a born again, I have not heard of his affiliation or a specific church.

The notion of people stalking this idiot into his church is laughable. I discern that this is an utter lie.

He was instructed to say this, to play into the myth that liberals are enemies of decent Christians and persecuted solely for their faith. He is a paranoid wingnut among many other paranoid wingnuts.

18. By his own description, he said he was a "2 holiday" Christian...
...in his bio originally on his website, and that he usually votes Republican because they most often support conservative values. (cough)

Uh, those holidays are usually Christmas and Easter, in my years of church experience. Ash Wednesday was this last week (the beginning of the Lent-Easter cycle)--but by that time--he had already quit.

10. Yeah, the "family" and "church" bleatings were classic
Much as I despise Blitzer, at least he called this weasel on the usage of "family". What "Gannon" was doing was trying to elicit sympathy for his poor doe-eyed children being harrassed by filthy bolsheviks; when pressed, "family" was defined as his mother, sister and brother-in-law.

The church usage was classic Republican greasiness. At the end of the interview, he chirped that "when god closes a door, he opens a window". Personally, I'd be happy to see Sgt. Crock get defenstrated.

Samuel Johnson was wrong; patriotism isn't the last refuge of a scoundrel, religion is.

HANNITY: Now, Jeff Gannon, who is a terrific Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent for Talon News, actually shot me an e-mail today, and he's about to break a story in an exclusive about these CBS documents.

Hannity said that in fall 2004 So a Fox news/ Gannon/ Rather Memo/ link
(this should tie to the white house and be the grounds for impeachment)

Also he let Gannon say that he changed his name for professional reasons ....
Sure and "Ginger" who wants to give me a $20.00 lap dance changed her name
for professional reasons too.

If the press corps was more interested in real answers instead of helping to promote a political agenda, perhaps there would be more press conferences.

Don't forget it was John Roberts of CBS who confronted Dan Bartlett with the phony Bush service record documents and it was the New York Times that printed a front-page, above-the-fold article by Elisabeth Bumiller that was about a rumor that Vice President Dick Cheney would be replaced on the ticket.

How many versions of "What mistakes did you make?" during a prime-time press conference should be tolerated? Remember, the previous president didn't admit his mistake until the DNA test results came in.
