Jeff Gannon: Nexus of Administrations Dubious Dealings?
An unbelievable week for the cred of this administration (as if WE ever stuck OUR heads in the sand).:

*So...Gannon is busted for lobbing softball, milque-toast, agenda driven, leading rhetoric.

*Admitted to the WH press corp under an "alias".

*Traced to Plame case.

*Traced to Memo/Rathergate.

What am I forgetting here? I have purposely left out Guckert's private life...it's not needed with all the unscrupulous actions...and raising it as an issue is an insult to our GLBT community under OUR "big tent" (take back the words).

Will Pitts link sums it up much better.

Folks, now this is important, the MSM seems to be picking it up. Hey, it reeks of all of the points that make for a hot, hot, hot news story. Now...WE NEED TO TRACE THIS BACK TO THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR SETTING THE MATCH TO THE KINDLING. KARL ROVE.

We know he's behind it. The press looks like they have it on the tip of their tongue. We just need to push them over the edge.

And if it's traced to Rove...it's just a hop, skip, and jump to Bunnypants.

I just want to say...DU...thank you, thank you, thank you. Without this cyber-thinktank, these facts could never been distributed so quickly. Now...I believe it's time to go in for the kill. Let's make sure we follow through in our investigations. It is merely a matter of time before we connect the dots.

3. You may not care about the gay angle
and I certainly don't care if he's gay, BUT we all know the republican party pushes an anti-gay agenda VERY strenuously, and he was working HARD for the repukes. Which means if he is gay, he is a seriously big hypocrite. For that reason alone, I think it IS an issue.

Also, consider this: Americans, sadly, don't sit up and pay attention unless it involves SEX. It's easy to understand. It's universal. It has never failed to amaze me how Americans don't get riled up about corporate welfare, giving $3 million to Coca-Cola to build a Coke museum in Georgia (hello? Is Coke not making any money anymore?), a multi-trillion dollar deficit, being lied to to get into a fuckcluster of a war, but you mention sex and they are all over it.

6. I'm gay
and I care a lot about the gay angle. These people live by gay bashing, let them get busted for hypocrisy.
Another little tidbit for the straight people out there: the military porn and prostitution angles are very disturbing. If Gannon was a pimp, then he is clearly exploitative. And many of those guys posing for those military fetish sites are poor grunts who desperately need the money our Compassionate Conservative Running for Commander in Chief Wartime Preznit will not pay them and, in fact, cuts every time he can. Some of these operations purpousefully set up shop around big bases to be closer to their prey-er-models. Did Gannon and his little concern do this? That's a very important question.

9. Unfortunately...you are correct.
However, we've had some of our posters in the GLBT community voice their disgust that with all the outrageous actions of Mr Guckert, that the fact that he's gay is trying to center stage, is stomache churning.

His self loathing hypocrisy is obviously an attention getter. But this story shouldn't be about Guckert. It should be about the blatant actions of this administration to place a voice for propaganda and journalistic retribution into a position of public trust. THAT'S the story.

14. I think it will get there, don't worry
They are fucking up in too many other ways: Social Security, deficit, Iraq, North Korea, unemployment, Prescription Drugs, flagrant and silly homophobia (SpongeBob, anyone?), nagging doubts about the (s)election, etc. It seems leaks like the one today from the FAA about 9/11 happen more and more, which means the bureaucracy has had it and is fighting back. The critical mass of crap has been achieved. Plus, suddenly, the Democratic party goes into upheaval and starts to grow a spine-even in Congress. Plus this thing hits them in their strong point: media control. Remember what Karl Rove says and learn from the enemy: "Hit them at their strongest point, they'll fall apart."
We have to keep on it with this. This will be the Deep Throat/John Dean/Alexander Butterfield factor: the seemingly tiny thing that makes the whole castle of shit collapse under its own weight.

15. I totally agree that the BIGGEST story here is the bush
administration. They are ALWAYS who we need to have our sights set on. Always.

Unfortunately I've noticed this tendency among the MSM to focus on the fall guy and NOT on the real bad guys, the bush administration.

And apparently we do it around here, too. BUT, in DU's defense, it IS a juicy story (again, it's the HYPOCRISY, not the homosexuality) and it'll die down soon. Already I'm seeing more threads focus on more big picture stuff with regard to this story.

17. Yeah, but the difference here is that the fall guy
is so close to Rove and the reactionary noise apparatus. This one has legs.

4. I did my part...I wrote to the White House Correspondents Assoc.
president and asked him about how credentialling of a website with no record of regular publication could have happened.

No answer yet.

There are other groups who have an interest in this. Members of these groups are ego-invested in their prestige. Gannon/TalonNews demeans these folks, they need to know we know that.

We should to identify those groups like the WHCA and challenge them to interrogate their own doubts.

5. Can Gannon be *'s Lewinsky!
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 01:32 PM by Niche
I Believe... this could have implications that squash the media in this country... 'cause this goes straight to the WH. Hoping with all hope the Dems jump on this. These crooks never stop surprising.

* "That's a good question Jeff..." Fucking unbelievable... and Helen Thomas is hushed to the back of the room and Amy Goodman can't get clearance... Ahhhhh.

edit to add: P.S. Did this "plant" also plant the docs that brought Rather down? Also,, the repigs will jump all over the "gay" issue as another poster suggests, forget that these bastards are murderers and war criminals.

8. I think Amy and Helen should talk to more progressive media
to get backing for a full investigation.
The sound you would hear is the WH and MSM shitting their collective pants.

16. full text of the question
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/01/20050126-3.html

Senate Democratic leaders have painted a very bleak picture of the U.S. economy. Harry Reid was talking about soup lines, and Hillary Clinton was talking about the economy being on the verge of collapse. Yet, in the same breath, they say that Social Security is rock-solid and there's no crisis there. How are you going to work -- you said you're going to reach out to these people -- how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?

and from Salon:

Reid never made any such comment about soup lines.

That afternoon conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh crowed that Gannon's question was "a repeat, a rehash, of a precise point I made on this program yesterday." However, Limbaugh conceded that Reid had "never actually said 'soup lines.'" That was simply Limbaugh's exaggerated characterization of Reid's concerns. Gannon either heard that phrase on Limbaugh's show or read it in Limbaugh's online column and then inserted it into his loaded question to Bush. On Feb. 2, with Gannon under fire for his lack of journalistic ethics, Limbaugh suddenly flip-flopped and told listeners that Gannon's question about Reid and soup lines "was an accurate recitation of what the Senate Democrat leaders had said." Then, in a Feb. 7 article in the Washington Post, Gannon finally conceded the quote was made up, but suggested he had nothing to apologize for.

7. I left a detailed msg for the Wa Post ombudsman
just a moment ago on Howard Kurtz article. He slams kos as a San Fran. lib. The guy doesn't live in SFA as I read on kos today. And Howie totally leaves out the all important Plame memo and Wilson interview. He missed the boat on the outing of Plame here.

10. and how did someone with using a pseudonym get into the White House??
fer christ sake? aren't we at war? isn't this a changed world post-9/11 according to chimp? yet someone using a fake name is allowed access to the white house?? even repukes are steamed:

"The situation "begs further investigation," says James Pinkerton, a media critic for Fox News who has worked for two Republican White Houses. "In the six years I worked for Reagan and Bush I, I remember the White House being strict about who got in. It's inconceivable to me that the White House, especially after 9/11, gives credentials to people without doing a background check."

<snip>

Earlier this week, when asked about Gannon's access, White House press secretary Scott McClellan essentially threw up his hands and said he has no control over who is in the press room and whom the president calls on during his rare press conferences. "I don't think it's the role of the press secretary to get into the business of being a media critic or picking and choosing who gets credentials," he told the Washington Post.

"That's like saying, 'I'm chief of staff at a hospital and when a patient dies in surgery and it turns out the guy operating wasn't a doctor ... not my business to be a medical critic,'" says Ron Suskind, a former Wall Street Journal reporter who has written extensively about the inner workings of the Bush administration. "Nobody is asking him to be a media critic. They're asking him to make sure people in the press room -- the ones using up precious time during extremely rare press conferences -- are acting journalists, honest brokers dealing with genuine inquiry to get at the truth."

11. Ah don't know who he is...

Ah don't know ennything about how them fellers in the White House Press Corpse is selected, Ah don't have annything to do with it.

Was he a p'litical operative out of Texas? Wall, I sure din't know him, he he heh, (smirk).

Why did I answer him when I wuz doin' interviews 'n such? Wall, he's the feller rose his hand the highest, I guess. Never gave it much thought, really. I uz busy clearin' brush out'n the back 40 at the ranch down in Crawford, see, and I didn't have no time to be thinkin' about who was in the press corps.

Homosexual? Hell, I din't know that. Prostitution? Obviously I din't know about that. I think it's turrible, prostitution, and it results in depraved badness that's against everything I stand for.

Of course we'll investigate it, I've put a trusted mimber o' my staff on it, and I think it shows that certain members of this administration need to exercise more disternment, like I've recommended all along, see, when it comes to vetting the press in this serious issue. And I'm just gracious, absoulutely gracious, that we've managed to uncover this columnity before it harmed our vital natural instincts.

13. Try to imagine if the Clinton administration had been giving ...
a press pass to a call girl.
:wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:
It would be a 24/7 resignation watch on FOX, MSNBC & CNN. The Republican's in congress would have started hearings the next day. Ken Starr would have dropped everything and jumped all over it.

She can't get cleared for WH press conferences? I knew about Helen Thomas getting shuffled to the back, but hadn't heard anything about Amy Goodman.

21. REALITY CHECK: Running a GAY PROSTITUTION RING is not a personal issue...
just as running a straight prostitution ring is not a personal issue.

Jeff Gannon is not under suspicion of being gay; he's under suspicion of being a pimp with a White House press pass.
