snip

HANNITY: And apparently they're also, according to Jeff Gannon, the -- Talon News -- this woman, Mary Mapes, this Dallas producer , is under pressure for the network, and now there's doubts about their authenticity has taken place. Let me tell you what that means. That means everything's going downhill. And you watch. There's going to be somebody that has to take the fall here, and it's not going to be uh, it's not going to be Dan Rather.

HANNITY: Now, Jeff Gannon, who is a terrific Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent for Talon News, actually shot me an e-mail today, and he's about to break a story in an exclusive about these CBS documents.

56. nabbed!

Bush's press conferences = high school drama club = totally un-credible staged performances with the actors stoked for the party afterwards. Classic that Hannity pulls a Robert Novak and gets Rove in hot water - the extent and intensity (not to mention dramatis personae) of Karl's "power plays" can't remain secret for much longer!!!

16. Not quite
But there is a nice article on the Degree of Separation between him and Rove here...

More interesting is that he and Karl Rove seem to share a mentor -- a largely under-the-radar wingnut named Morton Blackwell. It seems that "Jeff" also is a graduate of the the Leadership Institute Broadcast School of Journalism -- a conservative propagandist training school that was founded and is run by Blackwell and that operates on an $8 million annual budget which comes from God knows where.

Remember the lame stunt during the Republican National Convention in NYC where many delegates taunted war hero Kerry by wearing purple band-aids that said: “It was just a self-inflicted scratch, but you see I got a Purple Heart for it”? It was Blackwell, a GOP delegate from Virginia, who handed the band-aids out to the conventioneers.

Less well known is that Blackwell -- who was the youngest Barry Goldwater delegate in 1964 -- is also a former national executive director of the College Republicans, who had trained the teen-age Karl Rove to be a “field organizer.” According to a May 2003 New Yorker article, it was Blackwell who urged Rove to shun the growing reliance on pollsters and media consultants and go back to the grassroots. We all know how that turned out.

65. There's a whole web of connections here
I'm reposting a chart I did last fall when the CBS memo story and other were coming out. It's missing a few connections that have emerged since then, but it's still generally sound

Morton Blackwell and the Leadership Institute are in the green area at the top, along with Mike Krempasky of rathergate.com, Karl Rove, and the other dirty tricksters who came out of the College Republican National Committee in the Nixon years. Krempasky's rathergate.com website was featured in Talon News and GOPUSA stories last fall, and he wrote a guest editorial for GOPUSA in October about the awesome power of the right-wing blogs.

The yellow area at the bottom is most closely connected with the anti-Clinton jihad, Regnery Publishing, and Richard Mellon Scaife. "Buckhead" of the CBS memos story is there, as is Bruce Eberle, the brother of Bobby Eberle of GOPUSA.

When I created the chart, I was looking for indications of complicity between these two groups on the CBS memo "forgery" story, but I was never able to establish any direct links. That's why they're at opposite ends of the chart. However, "Gannon" having connections with both Eberle and Krempasky raises the possibility again.

(The chart also includes various other Republican dirty tricks, from the Willie Horton ad to "Stolen Honor," as well as fund-raising scammers and Jack Abramoff of the ever-spreading Indian casino gambling scandal. But those don't seem to be part of the Gannon picture.)

46. Who knows?
But Gannon is from Texas. Go figure. Everybody's from Texas in that administration I think! I remember reading an article on Greg Palast and they had the plan all a long to get rid of Mary Mapes because she'd be the only one in the media to talk about voting fraud. Obviously they didn't think about Keith Olbermann ( :loveya: ). I'm surprised they aren't going after him. That amazes me. He's one lucky man.

14. If you're running fake news (Rathergate) why not use fake reporters?
It's abundantly clear by now that the forged documents were "leaked' as part of a Rove "Special Ops".

Dan...why not punctuate your otherwise illustrious career by taking a second look at the dubious circumstances leading up to CBS' receipt of these documents?

Maybe a three- parter on the CBS Evening News...possibly during the second week of March?

19. A textbook Soviet-style Maskirovka
Which is a sham-event cooked up by THE PARTY to achieve an agends goal or discredit a Liberal Enemy (in the Soviet Union, the Liberals are on the Right, which just goes to show the struggle is not so much Left vs. Right but freedom-loving people versus Totalitarian Bootlickers, and they can be on either side.

Yet another similarity between Busheviks and other Tyrants of History.

In any case, I don't think there is any doubt this was a set-up that makes Watergate look like Kindergarten.

78. I did a search on his gay websites
I'm sorry, but I think "Gannon" was telling the truth on this one. I did a link to search on Google, and the only thing that came up was a bunch of controversial comments regarding his White House Press Room acceptance. Although his website may look to be appealing to gays, it could have been aimed to appeal to hetero's.
The whole gay website thing is getting everyone off track. There is a bigger issue here, beyond the hypocrisy. I don't think Gannon was gay or a gay traficker of escorts. I think he was a businessman trying to make a living.
The White House has used him, and I'm sure they paid him off well to keep quiet. If he shows signs of squealing, he will be dead. And the righties will blame us for driving him to "suicide".
The guy's too much of a novice to keep clean too long, so I predict that the righties will off him before the end of March.

Like any "kook" that they recruit for dirty jobs, "Gannon" appears to have been an unstable character, quite a drifter. He certainly has had a most circuitous career -- makes Lee Harvey Oswald look like a career ladder man.

You'd think that a clearly documented career as a drifter would make him suspect in the eyes of the Secret Service, etc. Hell, you can't get hired for many ordinary jobs with such a history -- and we're supposed to believe they will let such a person sit 4 rows away from the president? I don't buy it, one bit. Like the fighter jets on 9/11, someone called for a stand-off. Suspect: Karl Rove.

He doesn't understand when he needs to keep his mouth shut -- a good intelligence guy would. "Gannon" is led by the nose by his ego, and constantly self-sabotages by saying stupid things. He said today, while being fellated by Wolf Blitzer, that Jesus had shut one door and opened a window -- it would appear that some guardian "angel" is going to set him up in a real career. My prediction: he will be set up as a pundit, the same way they reward and promote every other fool who has bombed disastrously during their administration -- it's a way of making people who aren't paying attention ignore the criticism, and accept incompetent ideologues as "credible sources," and to try, or keep sipping, the koolaid.

26. Bait & Switch
The best defense is going on offense. What else did you think InSannity would do?

Welcome to the search for Red Herring...divert attention from the real scandal by recreating, and once again, revising, history. Take the pressure off of Hannity's ilk and put it back on the "librul media" or some other boogie man. As long as "Gannon" is the focus, that gets too close to home...time to shift attention.

As I predicted, "Gannon" is being made into a wingnut martyr...another victim of this vast "librul media" rather than being part of a co-ordinated, orchestrated and elaborate operation to manipulate the media and mislead as many people as possible. Hannity is keeping up his share.

Let's up Mr. Hannity's bet...hopefully we'll be learning more about the Eberle's..."Gannon's" partner and the next step in the pyramid that we need to keep climbing until we find where the buck really stops. Hannity fears that...thus let's divert and beat up Dan Rather again.

Of course, this also opens the door, to investigate Mr. Buckethead, as well, as too of the same slimy names are starting to intersect here.

34. "Gannon" Made An Interesting Reference
In an interview on NPR...he said he got his credentials from the "Congressional Gallery"...supposedly (or my interpretation) a group inside the House leadership that either created their own credentialing or is legit and abusing that power.

"Gannon" attempted then to justify that for his access into the WH...and how he was always issued the "day pass" since he was never credentialed by the Washington Press association...the group that generally calls the shots inside the beltway.

My dream is that the entire wingnut network is exposed...from this deliberate intimidate and misinformation campaign to the money/political relationship between the GOOP, broadcating, publishing, churches and other right wing groups. As someone posted elsewhere...it may even boggle Hillary Clinton's mind.

like a canary if John Conyers were to subponea him before a House Committee, especially after the far right gets done crucifying him for his sexual preference.

49. Essential to graph the links of "Buckhead," Eberle, "Gannon", Hannity ...
.....as the DU, DK, Media Matters investigation proceeds.

Here's one key DU link:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=835262

I remember others, both here and at DK.

Wonder if Mary Mapes and Dan Rather would like to be working directly with DU, DK and Media Matters!!! (maybe they are ???)

Peace.

52. Excuse me while I laugh so hard my sides split
HANNITY: Now, Jeff Gannon, who is a terrific Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent for Talon News, actually shot me an e-mail today, and he's about to break a story in an exclusive about these CBS documents.

So, when Insannity says "terrific Washington bureau chief" he means "shameless, spineless, hypocritical lying attention whore" right?

83. Shameless promotion of Gannon by Hannity
Also -- wasn't it observed at DU months ago how weird it was that detailed orthographic analysis of the memo was available immediately after the documents were published?

AW COME ON! Am I supposed to believe "Gannon" was able to assemble a team of indisputable experts within a couple of hours?

I suspect it was a setup -- Rather took the bait.

Who's behind it? Rove, I suspect. (who's about to be promoted to deputy chief in staff -- promotion is a CLEAR SIGN of guilt in this adminstration.)

55. everything but the smoking gun
I thought the Bush campaign against Gov Ann Richards was shady. Lots of smear and set ups courtesy of Rove. Nothing could be proved beyond a doubt but many a thinking Dem wondered. Fast forward to 2004-2005. I suspected the CBS as a plant from the beginning as this is classic Rove MO. I have suspected Plame's outing from day 1 as a Rove job too. These jobs have everything but Rove's fingerprints on 'em. I hope that Rove got so cocky he tipped his hand, but frankly he's good, very good. This really demands a full scale investigation. REMEMBER, Nixon's problems started with a bungled burglary (and Karl was a Segretti apprentice then).

87. I tagged it as a set-up as well
This is absolutely a Rove M.O. He set up James Hatfield, author of Fortunate Son in much the same way. He knew Hatfield was writing an unflattering (but well-researched) book on Bush, and he talked with him, several times I think. He confirmed Bush's coke useage and gave him some other details -- ONE of which was purposely false. IIRC, the false detail had to do with the party affiliation of some TX judge. So, the book is all printed and even out to bookstores, and the "news" breaks that Hatfield was involved in a rather nasty, unpleasant little matter some years ago, AND that he had this "fact" wrong in his book. The whole book and Hatfield himself are completely discredited, and St. Martins pulls the book BACK into the publishing house and destroys them.

The book was later printed by Soft Skull Press, I think the name is.

So, the book and its author are discredited and some OTHER story is the news while everyone forgets about any of the other substance, or the fully substantiated coke useage, etc. It's perfect.

Same here. Some truth, some falsity, and the REAL story gets lost in the manufactured story. I'm not sure this was actually aimed at Rather, but it might have been. Here's what I think happened -- and btw, the lightning-quick analysis of the type forensics was a first major clue:

* Rove made sure that someone who was known to be a critic of Bush had the fake memos. The National Guard officer who "leaked" them was a middleman patsy, that's all. Or he may have been partially target as well, since he HAD been critical of Bush for a while.

* It could have been set up months and months before it happened. It didn't require any one particular news outlet or campaign to be effective and "work" -- remember, the goal was discrediting the story itself and directing attention elsewhere. It was a trap that was set and sprung... just waiting for prey.

58. Now what?
Is there any new organization that has the balls to keep this going and to get it all out there or is this just going to be a flash in the pan. These people are crooked and there needs to be some light shown here. if there were laws broken then there needs to be jail for someone.
We no longer have a special prosecutor role since that law is gone, but it seems to me that there may be time for a new law just to have someone investigate how someone using a fake name can gain complicit regular entry to the white house.

74. Do you ever wonder what has to go wrong ...
... in the development of a person's brain for them to end up as screwed-up as Hannity? Or Ann Coulter? I mean, is there something physically wrong with their brains that produces such utterly deficient and asinine thinking? Or did they grow up in some sort of bizarre environment that crippled their mental abilities for life? Scientists should study this, they might be able to find a cure.

Sometimes I wonder if the Repubs believe that people are more easily manipulated when they are slightly brain damaged (by things like mercury and other pollutants that impair fetal development) and that’s part of the reason why they’re so pro-pollution. It would be a win-win for them, their big contributors get richer (thanks to relaxed pollution restrictions) and they get a public that’s more easily deceived. Of course it’s a lose-lose for the American people, as usual.

76. People will do all kinds of whacked things
for money, fame, power-it's your basic "deal with the devil" (no religious implications intended). I think these people are defective in any number of ways, possibly those you've mentioned. I think their primary defect though is that they have no interest in elevating themselves as human beings-they aren't "do the right thing" individuals. They are instead, bottom feeders who sell out anyone and anything for their personal benefit.

I've always believed there's a universal code of justice and that ultimately good prevails. I'm beginning to wonder-

80. What went wrong...
For Hannity, I suspect that <insert any minority> at his high school pushed him into a locker in front of the prom queen.

For Ann Coulter, I'm thinking it's more along the lines of her marriage to Satan.

85. Holy Shit -- I just got this image of Hannity sitting three rows in front
of me, fifteen years ago, watching the "jocks" spit spitballs into his hair and start rumors about him pulling his whack in study hall. Face all round, kind of squinty -- probably called him dough boy or something.

And now, he hates the world.

88. Is Rove's new job at the White House a legal maneuver to protect him?
Recently, the White House announced that Karl Rove was taking over a different job in the White House. Was this only a legal maneuver to protect Rove and the Bush Cabal (executive privilege) from future prying investigations into an explosive story that hit this week?

I bet yer right, KW!

ROVE doesn't truly NEED any official JOB to do what he does...this new title just serves to insulate him from justice.
His subpoena-bility was a chink in the evil empire's armor, but this move patched it!

EDIT: You should bring this subject up in general discussion; it's a topic in its own right.
