Until last night, the only MSM news coverage of Gannongate was printee February 2 by the Boston Globe's Charlie Savage and Alan Wirzbicki. Since then I have been tracking developents in the MEDIA forum: "MSM is AWOL on Gannongate" - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=109&topic_id=18103&mesg_id=18103

Additions made since midnight include a second Boston Globe article, as well as Washington Post, Seattle PI, NY Daily News, Deleware News, Chicago Times and a few others.

Notably missing are the NY Times, LA Times, Knight-Ritter, Gannon (USA Today).

DU, KOS and other forums and bloggers made a significant contribution in the struggle agains *'s media propaganda machine.

The battle was won but the fight is not over. Read the MSM stories, they barely scratch the surface; we know they go much deeper. Going forward, this is what we need to do:

1. Write to the reporters who have written the articles that listed in "MSM is AWOL on Gannongate". Ask them to keep up the good work.
2. Insure our friends and neighbors read the MSM coverage.
3. Tell the same that there is much more.
4. If your local newspaper has not given any coverage to this scandal, write a polite letter to the news editor.
5. Educate the public - write letters to the editor.
6. Educate reporters - share what we know and insure more is printed.

5. It isn't just the coverage, it's the slant

On Wolf Blitzer's show last night Howie Kurtz (who wrote the WaPo article) framed Gannongate this way: the mean liberal bloggers unfairly invaded poor "Gannon's" privacy to reveal his sexual orientation because of his political views. The whole thing became a story about the "unfairness" of "liberal bloggers," a hit against freedom of information on the internet. It was absolutely unbelievable. Nothing about the military personnel prostitution, the Plame affair, the faked ID and credentials or consistent plaigiarism, the fact that "Gannon" has served as a White House propaganda plant, or the very suspicious breach of security that was committed in order to have him where he was wanted.

It was total propaganda. Blitzer let it all go by, unchallenged. And Kurtz has an article with a similar slant in the WaPo.

Even when there IS coverage, it can be total lies.

I expect a campaign to suppress internet freedom. It's one of the few loopholes left in the chained down remnants of what was democracy in this country. With the recent successes in fund raising, information gathering (for Conyers, for example) and activism, internet-based progressive activism isnow becoming a target of the blivet** administration goons.

Once they get thepublic riled about the vicious "liberal bloggers" invading their privacy like poor, innocent "Gannon's," it's a short step for the compliant Rethug-majority Congress to pass new laws suppressing interent freedom "for the good of the people."
