Gannon scandal:Swift Boat Vets analogy
I'm not referring to the accuracy or lack of it for the SBV scandal. Think of how the SBV story was buzzing in the right wing blogs and forums for a long time before it hit the mainstream. At first some of us pooh-bahed this SBV story as some right wing bullshit that would not take off. Well, it eventually did. Now the Gannon story is really buzzing in left wing blogs and forums. CNN and Boston Globe have touched this, but not at the magnitude that we are. Some feel that this Gannon story will die very soon and be quickly forgotten except among the hardcore leftwingers online.

I say this: just wait and see...this story could actually grow more legs to the point that the mainstream have to focus on this and see more pieces fall into place for the world to see. Will that happen for sure? I don't know, but don't dismiss this possibility.

1. no way
this is why the democrats are dead for years to come, the media will not push this. Who do you think controls the media in this country today?

not enough people have been hurt, and until they destroy ss, ban abortion, stem cell research, destroy medicare, and bankrupt this country nothig will happen

I do get some sollice that many of these people we voted for * will be screwed by his polices

11. Exactly correct- the accuracy (or lack of it) in the story
seems to have an inverse relationship in the GOP vs. Dem stories.
They have no substance and go a mile. We may have all the chips and only slog out 2 hard fought steps before being beat down.

3. I Almost Was Going To Agree...
Until you tried to propose that the corporate media would do anything to embarass this regime or help Democrats. If anything, this media will do all they can to stonewall or ignore the story.

Look at how Whorie Kurtz is framing this thing already. BTW...who died and left him as the "premier media critic"?? Instead of a blatant attempt by this regime and press to distort and mislead the American people (one would think this might be a worth story), it's about the personalities and "liberal bloggers" picking on this poor "internet reporter" (so Whorie can take a shot at the competition...making his WaPo handlers as happy as his GOOP ones).

The Swift Boat Liars was a deliberate and orchestrated media campaign that included a major media blitz and pulled on it's "friends" in hate radio and people like "Gannon" to advance that agenda. The Democrats have no such operation. Instead of the story being debunked, O'Neill became some kind of media darling...just like I expect "Gannon" or whatever his name will be.

This story only has legs since the hubris and sloppiness of the media is now becoming so rampant, it's coming into the open like puss from a festering infection. I'll believe it has "legs" when we see major media figures exposed. I'm not holding my breath.

In the meantime, at least this vindicates for some of us, what we've always known exists...and further shows me how badly Democrats need to coordinate and create new media outlets to return truth and integrity to public discourse.

As much as I hate to say so... This whole Whatizname hoorahpalooza
is more a symptom of the disease rather than the cure.

This will blow over like a sour wind across the septic treatment
plant which was formerly known as objective journalism.

To me though... This is the last nail. The litmus test of
the media. If they refuse to stand up to this... Then they
are truly dead... and would they please turn off the lights
on the way out. Gotta conserve.

(Edit: Fixed the flow, man.)

6. Litmus test for the media !!
You got it, Prag. It is indeed.

The idea of "litmus test" for the media almost deserves its own thread -- in a day or two when we see whether the MSM will respond with integrity.

7. There Is Some Sunshine Here
First, the great work by the folks populating Daily Kos. These people have put together a lot of information in a short period of time...and I suspect there's more to come. The Eberles look like their dead central in a lot of this mess.

This reminded me of the crew Al Franken put together to fact check his stuff...people who value truth about their own resume, ego & profit. Hopefully, we're witnessing the start of a new media...slow and small, but growing in power and voice. It's story like these that will help in doing that.

There's a large and growing number of us out here who are getting angrier by the day. I'm starting to see a real attitude change among Democrats...ready to take on Repugnicans rather than run from them. But we have a long, long way to go.

Cheers!

5. So far, Howie Kurtz directs the attention of other reporters, and he has
declared the story to be the nastiness of liberal bloggers attacking a reporter merely for being conservative.

Kurtz usually wins. But, I don't think he'll win this one because it is TOO salacious and has TOO much real evidence.

10. You Don't Crap Where You Sleep
This story is too close to home for Whorie. My bets are his wife reminded him of that nice salary she makes as a GOOP "publicist". The hypocrisy and conflicts of the major media is what will hurt this story...at least in the mainstream media.

I expected Kurtz to frame it as an attack on "librul" bloggers...not at the fact "Gannon" was credentialed and didn't just ask one question, but was a regular "contributor" at press briefings and conferences (many televised live). He doesn't dare question his own WaPo WH reporter who sat next to this ringer without questioning the man's credibility (especially in light of some of the outrageous and highly partisan and nasty question he asked...it was like having Stuttering John sitting in on the press gaggles).

Yep, this is salacious, but we've had plenty of GOOP salacious in the past and it's always framed that "libruls" are conducting a "smear campaign" (as Whorie already has stated) while if the shoe were on the other foot, the story would be about "librul immorality".

This is truely the Faux watching over the henhouse.

So far, these press scandals have hit minor players...no names. We need to follow the money up to a Novakula or Tweety or Hannity...then maybe, just maybe, some real legs will sprout.

9. gannon PISSED OFF the entire WH Press Corps....way before this
scandal hit.....and those people KNOW how to dole out payback....it's in their career AND newpaper's interests to make certain that this NEVER happens again....

gannon took up a LOT of valuable time, and prevented REAL reporters from asking REAL questions, and getting REAL scoops for THEIR OWN REAL newspapers.....

this whole disaster is festering, as people try to figure out how to approach it....gannon is probably sending out threats of LAWSUITS for slander, etc.....

this SCANDAL has EVERYTHING that Main Stream Media (MSM) wants and loves...

SEX....and GAY SEX....in the White House
Spy's...the Plame outing...the CIA...classified memos..TREASON
Deceit at the highest levels of OUR Government
more bush* purchases of PROPAGANDA, with OUR TAX money
Security breaches right into the pResident

IMO, this is NOT going away...it's only going to FESTER and then POP WIDE OPEN....

gosh, gannon is COMPLAINING already because he's getting threatened....and the threats are probably from his own gay-sex military customers (and in DC, that's could be HIGH LEVEL officers)...

just wait until that idiot gives the press HIS 'Gay-sex military' Customer List, and starts really squealing.....either that, or until the hammer comes down on gannon for the Plame leaks, and he faces long Prison time for TREASON......
