Can an FCC complaint be lodged against Talon News?
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 06:34 AM by Skidmore
First, I received a reply to my complaint to the FCC re: Pundit Payola and posted it in another thread (link below).

Is Talon News ripe for a complaint regarding its existence. Is it considered a legitimate news operation? Or can the FCC be forced to look at the WH credentialing process for news people?

Can someone who knows more about this answer these questions for me? Just wondering if there is some entity in which we may lodge formal complaints.

1. I hope not, that would open a door for Internet censorship...
They are morans, but what would be the point in shutting them down?

5. No they wouldn't. No Internet poster is "credentialed" as a journalist
and they certainly don't have access to the WH Press room.

7. But that has nothing to do with the FCC...
and a lot to do with the Secret Service and the White House itself.

2. Wouldn't it be more to the point to ask how the Secret
Service let someone who was using a false identity to get into the same room, let alone same building, with the President, especially with all the screening everyone else normally has to go through? After all Bush and Co. say they know nothing about any of this...

Hmm.....

FCC regulates tv and radio airwaves. It has nothing to do with internet websites and WH press credentials, much less get to define what constitutes a "legitimate news operation". (Not their jurisdiction, as far as I know).

In this the land of the first amendment, ANYONE can pick up a pad and a pencil, and call themselves a journalist. ANYONE can start a website, print up a newsletter or a newspaper, or buy themseves a video camera, and call themselves a "legitimate news operation"
