Did you take the Clinton years for granted?
I certainly did. I miss not worrying about who we would bomb next and I miss living in a country where the leader was respected. The Lewinsky thing was a witchunt, and the republicans and religious right only seemed like an entertaining sideshow with no real affect. I miss not being angry. I miss peace. I miss not having to worry about money very much. I miss having three vacations a year. If only I had known what was to happen, I would have savored those years a little more.

2. I didn't, because of something Rush Limbaugh said...
A few days after Clinton was inaugurated, Limbaugh was going off on the "liberals" and their elation--which he said was "abnormal".

Limbaugh said that when fighter jets flew overhead, as part of the ceremony, someone caught "a liberal" saying, "Thank God...those are our planes now. Thank God."

Rush could not stop making fun of that person for saying that. He must have lambasted the person for an hour.

I never forgot Rush's words, because I could identify with that "liberal." I felt relief that the military was under our control. I knew that we wouldn't do anything stupid or start a war that would harm our country.

I felt peace.

Limbaugh solidified those feelings for me, and I cherished them every day of Clinton's two terms.

Today..I'm pretty much frazzled into a fetal position, hugging my bag of Cheetos. ;)

3. I was a kid who loved history
And wished constantly for something exciting to happen. I was obsessed with the 60s and wished that I had lived during exciting times like those, instead of the boring 90s.

Ha, ha, ha. Sorry guys, it's all my fault, I jinxed everyone.

9. As one who loved history,
surely you must have known that "may you live in interesting times" was a curse, not a hope.

Ah, well, live and learn.:-)

11. Yeah
At least I can try and make a difference now. Sometimes conflict is necessary to learn just how strong your principles really are. The worse Bush gets, the more determined I become to see him fall.

but in the end I didn't. It feels like ancient history now, considering all the shit this country (and the world) has been through during these last 4 years.

6. Most definietly
I miss Clinton's years very much. I'm just glad I'm not in public school anymore and in college and stuff. Heh heh. And I miss all of it too. The biggest thing to worry about back then seemed to be the Lewinsky thing. "When Clinton lied nobody died." *sigh*

7. Yep, I sure as hell did.
Add to that the fact that we did not get in on the internet bubble OR the great economy (we were a struggling young family back then), and I REALLY took it for granted.

I'd HATE to still be struggling like that now. It'd be five times worse.

8. How could I? We're currently waging a different battle of the same war
Neo-cons verses everyone else

When they went after Clinton, they attacked America...not just Clinton. And they started going after Clinton in 1988-89...before he was even elected. His entire 8 years were filled with constant attacks against him personally, and America as a whole.

I couldn't enjoy those years...everything they did to Clinton, and more importantly, to America, was a run up to what's happening now.
It helped set the stage...it didn't begin there...but those attack filled years played a major role.

26. glad someone said it
Clinton was obviously a 1000 times better than Bush but there was a lot for liberals NOT to be happy about Clinton's presidency.

during Clinton's time the US bombed other nations too - it's just that they didn't get around to bombing back till George took office

12. Yes! of course, I wasn't politically involved at the time
but it was nice to still believe that other nations loved and respected us, and would do what we said because we were on the side of right. The papers were always full of stories of us confronting some evildoer or rogue nation over something.

So I was naive, alright? I enjoyed it while it lasted.

13. Yes.
The first part of the 90's were bad for me on the personal and non personal.
However, after President Clinton was in office, things seemed to even out and later on of course, things were better. Much better. I had more money and I wasn't scared or pissed off to wake up in the morning. After awhile I went to "sleep." Maybe not as bad as some people did, but I still slept. After all, the old Soviet Union was gone so I didn't worry about them nuking us, or us nuking them and Clinton was in office, economy was good so why not take a nap?

I was rudely awaken on 12.12.00.

14. I thought that was that
and presidents would keep getting better. The Clinton years coincided roughly with my twenties, which were fun years (so are my thirties, actually, bar bush), and so my fondness for his reign comes partially from that.

I went to sleep on election night 2000 with the absolute assumption that Gore would be elected president. Little did I know about the massive thirty-year grassroots effort by greed-crazed, god-lovin', reactionary bastard boys to put one of their own in the White House.

16. I miss the Clinton years for sure...
I loved those years...it was the years that I first started to really pay attention to politics and to love politics, I was so happy and care-free, not really worrying about what might happen next...unlike nowadays when I seem depressed about the state of the country and worry about every little thing that comes out that little twits mouth, or his goons mouths, yes there up days, when there is good news coming from the democrats side, but most of the time it doesn't last for long.

21. Only compared to the Bush years
The horror of the Bush years also makes me misty-eyed for Reagan. The Clinton years were no panacea, remember the Republicans took the house in 1994, laying the foundation for what we have today.

24. Yes, I took him for granted.
I voted for him both times, but I was never that crazy about him at the time. Now I get misty eyed every time I see him on TV. He is looking too thin these days, don't you think? And I almost had a heart attack myself when I heard about his.

25. No, I never . . .
. . . took the Clinton years for granted. After 12 years of Reagan/Bush41, Clinton (although disappointing in some ways) was wonderful.

What I DID take for granted was Al Gore's being inaugurated as the next President.

Although I knew that the Bushies were up to no good, I did not anticipate a stolen election.

And I am still not over it.
