George W. Bush Recommends a Book (SERIOUSLY)...
Morning Briefing:
I Am a Wolfe Fan? President Bush has reportedly been "enthusiastically" recommending Tom Wolfe's latest novel, "I Am Charlotte Simmons" -- you know, the one that blows the lid off all the beer-drinking and bad sex that goes on on college campuses these days -- to friends. And though the White House won't comment about the president's purported embrace of the book, officially citing biographies of George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, along with the Bible, as the tomes currently on his night table, the International Herald Tribune tracked down Wolfe himself to speculate on what in his boozy, sexually graphic book might have captured the White House-dwelling former frat boy's imagination. "I imagine he responded to the blinding talent," Wolfe said, adding, "but beyond that, I'm just not sure." (International Herald Tribune)

1. I wonder if he knows what the book is about

And if Bush was really reading the Bible he wouldn't be doing half of the policies he's doing. I just don't believe it. If he is reading it it's probably the Old Testament war stories and nothing with Christ. Especially if he's cutting medicaid/medicare and not his "tax cuts" for his wealthy buddies.

2. I doubt he's ever opened that Bible...at least not to the part
in the New Testament where Jesus says stuff like, oh you know

"blessed are the peacemakers, yadda yadda, blessed are the meek, blah blah...sell all your stuff, give the money to the poor and follow me, prattle prattle..."

What a hypocrite.

3. It's how he "relates" to his daughters.....
That's how he remembers HIS good ol' days and it gives him warm fuzzies to know that his girls have the same hazy memories.

5. I doubt it. 688 pages is no Pet Goat.
"A Man in Full" sounds like a better Wolfe book to read--deals with "racial issues and the chasm in socioeconomic status in America."
