Conspiracy Theory: Hillary hinting at 08 run to drain the right's coffers.
If you listen to RW radio or read much of the literature that defines their folklore, you'll get the impression that the Democratic contender to beat in 08 is Hillary Clinton. However, most Dems realize what a polarizing figure she is, and I believe she's smart enough not to jump off that particular cliff, no matter how many coy hints she and Bill drop all over the place.

However......

New PAC Attack Tries to Sink U.S.S. Hillary
Wannabe Swift Boaters seek to “stop her now.”
Arthur Finkelstein, the political guru who helped create George Pataki, now wants to Swift Boat-ize Hillary Clinton. Senior New York Republicans say he’s creating a political action committee called “Stop Her Now”—all you need is the pronoun with this crowd, apparently—which will attempt to raise more than $10 million nationwide to use against Her during Her 2006 reelection campaign. The PAC will “bloody her up long before her presidential run,” vows a top state Republican, adding the model is indeed the Swift Boat Vets. Stop Her Now will bludgeon Clinton with ads, whether or not the New York GOP has found a candidate to take her on, which is looking increasingly difficult.
"

10 million dollars for a PAC which might be shadowboxing a phantom candidate. Maybe her well-placed hints here and ther are pretty damn smart: the right will be spending beaucoup bucks "Stop(ping) HER," and she ain't even in the running. And the more she drops hints that she MIGHT, the more they'll spend.

Hey freepers: ever get the feeling you're getting played?

1. We should let her run and then ask her to drop out
I'm willing to bet that not only that she will understand, but she should also realize that would be the #1 way to get revenge against the RW'ers that smeared her name.

5. It would be great for her to run a cheap campaign....

and then drop out. (I still think she'd be a shoo-in for 06.)

The right would spend so much money running an expensive campaign against her in 08, it'd be a total waste of their resources.

2. all she has to do is let slip a stray word or so in an interview and ...
these assholes will GLADLY fill in the blanks. Hillary, if she is safe in her NY seat, can DRAIN these bastards with no effort and no money expended.

I think it would be cute.

:D

4. It's too soon.......
That theory might make sense in 2007, but she doesn't need to have $10MM out there earmarked against her 2006 run.

6. Assuming the article referred to the 2008 Presidential Race...
how would this work. In order to generate any real money to stop her ($10M is chump change), she would have to spend money herself. Additionally, she would have to put on a credible showing of preparing to run, thus exciting her own base (she couldn't give the old "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" to her own followers, the Repubs might just notice). Therefore, she would have to spend money, raise expectations, and then deflate these when she announced "never mind." Not very practical.

7. I'm specualting that if the right is willing to spend
millions to run against her senate run in 06, then it follows that they'd spend billions against a possible 08 presidential run.

The more Hillary hints that she's going to run for president, the more right organizes specific campaigns against a single person. This seems to me like a waste of their resources.

Again.....this all speculation.

9. I disagree ...
I think all she has to do is let loose a hint in an interview and these paranoid bastards will do the rest.

8. The RW Swift Boat Liars are at it again, eh?
No matter. This is just another con game to part the rabid base with their money. Like Pavlov's dog. Ring the bell and the RW open their pocketbooks. We don't, but they truely deserve the government they have.

10. If this means that upper echelon Dem's got together,
and planned an offensive against the repup dirty trick machine (which we know is an integral part of their party), than I am all for it, and greatly encouraged about the future. I am sick of the dems pretending that arm of the repub party doesn't exist, unless they are on the defensive.
