Troops are troops. Why are

Army personnel called soldiers while Marines are differentiated as Marines? That bugs me as they are all doing their duty in roughly the same capacities. Just something I've always meant to get clarification on.

For the same reason Air Force members are referred to as 'airmen', rather than soldiers, so too are Marines called 'marines'.

7. I am an ex-Marine.....

Why not call all soldiers "sailor"? Why not call all airmen "coasties"? Marines are called that because they serve in the United States Marine corps. I always cringe when I hear some idiot talking head on TV refer to a Marine as a soldier.

- i am a former marine, never ex-marine, once marine always a marine !
