School Steroid Use Silent, Rampant
seems the establishment are saying it's not as bad as taking other illegal drugs ""Remember, kids are not breaking into people's houses to get their steroids," Yesalis said. "They're not walking around with dilated pupils looking like a parent's worst nightmare. A lot of kids doing this are captain of the high school football team.""

Aaaah, I seeee, it's ok if "nice" people do drugs...next thing we'll be told alcohol is a cool thing just because the establishment figures drink it.

I feel sorry for the kids who are sold the line that winning is everything.

2. Unfortunatly, winning is everything
It doesn't matter that Bush screwed Florida in 2000 and Florida and Ohio in 2004, he still won and that's all that matters.

It doesn't matter the Bush 41 used race baiting campaign ads to force whites thru ingorance, bigotry and apathy to support him after running "Willie Horton" ads. All that matters is that Bush 41 won the '88 election.

It doesn't matter that Iraq had no WMD's or even an Air Force to fight back against an invading army, it only matters that the US won and all other arguments are bunk.

It doesn't matter that a large American corporation exports all of its American, middle class pay jobs. All that matters is that the Corporation cut cost and saved money.

3. It also doesn't matter
that the divorce rate is so high. It matters that gays can't get married.

It doesn't matter that NCLB is going to destroy public education. 'They' will win when they have freed up money to provide vouchers to upstanding fundies who want their kids in private schools.

5. it's clear from the size of some of these kids that it's true
Some people just can't get the bulk without steroids. And, the thing is, if you don't get caught, it's probably worth it because it does enhance performance which can mean all the difference in how far you go in your sport.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is exhibit A. Would he be a billionaire governor and former movie star today if he was not first the champion of his sport with the help of steroids? I mean, let us be frank, we do not love Arnie for his acting ability. In 30 years he hasn't even learned to change his accent -- basic speech coach stuff for a professional actor. Steroids were the cornerstone that helped make his life what it is. Kids aren't stupid. They know that the pay-off for being at the top of their game can be very high.

Yes, there is a risk with any technology, but I don't think it is evil for kids to want to succeed.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
--John Mitchell, US Attorney General 1969-72
