Prepare to hurl, toss your cookies and whatnot
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 08:10 PM by Maestro
This billboard about 15 miles up the road from where I live has been bugging me since December when it went up. Well, I finally went to have a closer look at it because I thought it said who sponsored it. I wanted to know who was making me ill everytime I passed this on the highway. It is bad enough that a local Fox affiliate, ultra conservative radio station, KLIF has billboards up all over in poor taste, but this just rang hollow to me. By the way, here is a banner from a commercial that stations would not run from www.klif.com. These people are freaks.

It is almost like these creeps still feel like they have to convince people that they are correct. However, they can't do it by actually standing on a record of accomplishments just fear and cult worship. Oh well, here goes.

Take a look.

The billboard above was donated by a religious institution. Here they are: Covenant Media Foundation They are located in the deep Piney Woods of East Texas. These peons are the kind of people that make me question my own spirituality. They are bigots who support *. They are trained to not think just follow. These people are the last people that Jesus would want following him. I am so disgusted.

5. Really! it's utter bullshit that these so called churches are tax exempt
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 08:17 PM by ultraist
All while they engage in politics! They sound more like a PAC or special interest group to me, not a church. Maybe they should convert to a 527. I mean really, what makes them any different than a 527?

Turn the bastards in and write YOUR LOCAL PAPER and ask WHY is it a tax exempt church is allowed to do such a thing.

10. I plan to
but I fear that Covenant Media has some wiggle room as they can say that they are not politicing but simply congratulating *. They can lie throug their teeth and say that they were going to do the same for Kerry. I don't understand it. It seems to be bending the rules to a breaking point.

6. What was it that the Methodists said way back when?? I am sure
that they didn't contribute to this obscenity.

At least "some" churchy types don't have their heads up their asses. And this from his own denomenation... imagine that.

United Methodists Call on George W. Bush and Richard Cheney to Repent

United Methodist Church members and clergy are bringing charges against President George W. Bush and Vice-President Richard Cheney. “Our hope,” says Rev. Courtney Ball, “is that President George W. Bush and Vice-President Richard Cheney will recognize the sinfulness of their actions, sincerely repent, and move on to change their ways.

Iowa City, IA (PRWEB) October 19, 2004 -- United Methodist Church members and clergy are bringing charges against President George W. Bush and Vice-President Richard Cheney. The organizers call on all United Methodists Church members to read and sign the letter of complaint.

According to Josh Steward, “We are taking this action as Christians who are desperate to hold two of our own accountable. We, as United Methodists, understand that it is our duty to support and encourage our members and our leaders, and we have been doing so faithfully through prayers and petitions. But enough is enough. The guidance of our bishops and our church-members has been ignored by the respondents for too long. Too many people have died or suffered from the sins of these two men. Now it is time for them to answer for their actions with repentance, to turn back and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, or to be judged for not doing so.”

Unfortunately, now I attend a Prebyterian church and these screwballs seemed to be affiliated with the Presbytery. Ugh! My pastor though is extremely liberal so my immediate church is totally against this sort of thing.

15. That photo of bush is very deceptive. How old is it? 8 years ago?
He doesn't look like that anymore, he hasn't looked like that in a long time, and it probably took 20 rolls of film to get that PhotoShopped pic in the first place.

So, basically you've got a religious organization which is bearing false witness, eh?

so they want to follow protocol I guess... anyhow, shouldn't he probably be getting a W2 photo taken here pretty soon? he shouldn't keep the same photo... it is deceptive.

and we had a similar billboard that thanked bush near a major intersection where I live, and it made me so SICK, of course, after he won, it came down...

16. Let Freedom Ring
The more I think about this, I am just flabbergasted. I don't think we, the US, is under any immediate threat (except from our own government) so I guess this is direct reference to the Middle East. The whole point of going there was for supposed weapons; not freedom. They must brew a good, strong batch of Kool-Aid over there in East Texas.

17. Why don't you organize a little "painting party?"
If this is in a relatively smallish town, then you should be able to climb up there, with about five friends or so, at about 2 a.m. and paint horns and a pitchfork on the thing.
If you're organized, it shouldn't take but about 10 minutes, tops.

(I say this as someone with experience in this sort of thing, don't I? O8) )

Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 08:59 PM by anarchy1999
they are running on air. I nearly had a heart attack and I did blow several fuses in my mind, (I think I even went and poured myself a stiff drink). It was the first time I'd seen it. This commercial showed Dallas being nuked and several other frightening scenes, (OBL, Saddam maybe, towers falling etc), fade to black with, "We need to talk", 570 KLIF Talk Radio.

I'm still not believing what I saw. This station here in Dallas is out of control.

local stations here refused to run. It was tacky, uncalled for, and simply a grab for ratings playing on people's fears using their children as bait. This is the rethug mentality. Click on the link in my first post and visit the station. They are drunk on kool-aid.

24. "Covenant Media"... subtle.
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 10:49 PM by kiki
How about "Unholy Alliance Productions"?

"We've Made A Deal With Satan Studios"?

kiki's editing tip for the day: If you want to avoid looking subliterate in two-foot-high letters like these assholes, don't put a full point on the end of Mr (for Mister). As a general rule, if the word ends in the same letter as the abbreviation (Dr for Doctor, St for Saint or Street), you don't need a full point.

Still, they did at least get the correct phrase "Let Freedom Ring", as opposed to "Let Freedom Reign", as Chimpy wrote on his note from Condi. A bit of a Freudian slip I think... "reign" is a word we associate with monarchies and autocratic power.

"Fear the Unending Reign of FREEDOM!"

35. Kiki, that's the British way
In America, as far as I know, we always put the full-point period after the abbreviation. Mr. Dr. Mrs.
I know the Brits don't.
Or, are you talking about the SIZE of the period?
It is rather large.

Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 07:44 AM by ArchTeryx
I don't know. I'd more equate Texas these days with Isengard. There are alot of good people in the state (I know a particularly nutty, and apolitical, Texan named Hawk). However, it seems to be ruled by utterly corrupt business interests, old money and their loud, obnoxious peon allies.

You want the equivalent of Mordor, visit parts of industrial New Jersey. ;>
