Why did we get that $300 check if Social Security was going bankrupt?
You know, a few years back, Dubya pumped out his chest and announced we would all be getting a $300 check because, after all, the government didn't need it and it was our money (blah, blah, blah).

Now, he says Social Security is going bankrupt (a lie) but the question is: how does that square with his early actions regarding the $300?

How short-sighted and stupid was that whole $300 check deal.

1. That wasn't related to Social Security.
It was IRS...and you got that much less when you filed income taxes.

IOW, it was a total scam.

3. But--if we had a SURPLUS, it could've been used to help

.
make sure Social Security was sound.

If I recall, wasn't that part of what Al Gore argued for?

He was absolutely right.

5. Yes, that WAS the surplus
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 11:25 PM by sandnsea
A surplus created by excess FICA, in part at least. Yes, Al Gore argued to put it in a "lock box". And we sold out social security for $300 rebates. Well, we gave most of it to the wealthy actually. To kickstart the economy. Hehe, that worked well. Somebody called it DooDoo Economics a while ago, that's exactly right.

6. There are still low income earners walking around praising Bush
for the tax cut.

That was a fabulous PR move.

7. You were supposed to "stimulate" the economy with it...

9. It was to through a little cash at the sheep so that the rich
could get more on the backend. It was part of *'s "it's your money" bit.
