What They're Not Telling You About the "Election" (Dar Jamail)

<snippit>

The gamble of using the polling day in Iraq to justify the ongoing failed occupation of Iraq has apparently paid off, if you watch only mainstream media.

“Higher than expected turnout,” US mainstream television media blared, some citing a figure of 72%, others 60%.

What they didn’t tell you was that this figure was provided by Farid Ayar, the spokesman for the Independent Electoral Commission for Iraq (IECI) before the polls had even closed.

When asked about the accuracy of the estimate of voter turnout during a press conference, Ayar backtracked on his earlier figure, saying that a closer estimate was lower than his initial estimate and would be more like 60% of registered voters.

2. No matter what the actual turnout, media around the world
jumped at this unofficial, unsubstantiated number and reported it. No fact-checking.

3. This election was as valid as the last American election.
That is to say, completely fraudulent in every way, including "reported turnout".

6. But there may be good news
The more that Bush and his posse tell us that the election was a big success, the more that people in this country will expect that we will leave Iraq. Even people in this country are smart enough to know that if everything is going well, we don't need to be there (OK, I was shocked about the country's intelligence on election day, but they should get this). Then Bush will need to explain how shitty the whole plan was.

I know I'm being Pollyannaish, but you gotta give me something to hang on to.

8. they like to brag that * is the master of low expectations
which he has consistently met throughout his horrific term thus far, but he has also managed to snow a lot of folks that we've been making progress the whole time as well... now that we are at the end of the manufactured story their will be no way to cover this up any longer unless they pull the plug on the remaining scant media coverage and move on to another manufactured crisis :scared:

welcome to DU :toast:

peace
