Makes you feel good to be an American, eh? The Administration had a big take away from the Hitler days... whatever you do, don't gas the prisoners!

1. I think we need to remember the Germans we held during WWII
Did you know that. There was a camp near my Grandfather's cabin, where they kept U-Boat sailors captured off our coast. Then we have to consider the Internment camps for the Japanese and then the ones for the Italians on the east coast. Just some thoughts from the past, remember, those who do not learn history repeat it.

and then taken smiling, thumbs-up trophy photos.

We are morally superior to the Nazis, indeed.

So far.

5. Don't compare against the worst
Don't compare against the worst, because if you do you'll always come out on top, no matter what.

I've seen an insightful comment recently about Auschwitz - can't recall where - that in holding up the Nazi concentration camps as the worst example of atrocity in modern history (which they likely are!) we're making it easier for ourselves to overlook the current problems. Because our current problems, such as Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib or Sudan, are still nowhere near as horrible. So we can earnestly say that nothing as bad as Auschwitz is happening and feel better that way. Meanwhile, thousands of people are dying horrible deaths right now. They sure are not thinking "at least we're not being gassed in Auschwitz."

4. Is anyone aware of the terrible conditions
Geman POW's were held in by the Americans after WW2? Practically "death camps". See: http://www.jamesbacque.com/
