Bill Clinton (aka Da Big Dawg) calls Gen. Clark a "star" of the Dem Party
Senator Clinton Says No to '04, but Playfulness Hints at Yes
-snip-
During cocktails in the back yard, one group heard former President Bill Clinton say that the national Democratic Party had "two stars": his wife, the junior senator from New York, and a retired general, Wesley K. Clark, who is said to be considering a run for the presidential nomination.
-snip-

The remarks by Mr. Clinton about another "candidate or two" getting into the presidential race were explained in an e-mail message sent by his spokesman, Jim Kennedy, who referred to the constitutional amendment that limits presidents to two terms in office. "He meant Wesley Clark, and temporarily forgot about the 22nd Amendment," Mr. Kennedy wrote.

1. If Clark enters the race, he and Dean are going to tag team Bush
Whether you support Clark or Dean or any of the other candidates, having someone else strong jump into the media spotlight and show Bush for the lying crook he is will not be a bad thing for Democrats.

Many people I have talked to have a good feeling that Clark can beat Bush in 2004.

When do we actually hold that politicians must do their jobs first and run for office as last priority. Hillary Clinton accepted the job of being Senator of New York for one term. If she doesn't finish it...well, then the hell with her. She'll never get my vote, and shouldn't be supported by anyone looking to make government more accountable to the people.

5. I think he is wrong and wrong to say it in public
Clark just joined the party, how can he be one of it's "STARS". I have no problem voting for Clark if he is the nominee, however there are several long time warhorse Democrats who I would be much happier supporting. There are those who have carried the banner and fought for the people, for democratic values and issues and put themselves on the line in policy debates, that I would prefer as candidates.

Really disapointed in Clinton on this one.

13. Clark just joined the party? Where was he before that?
His withholding declaring party affiliation only increased his crossover appeal. I went to a Clark meet up last night with 2 Nader voters - who said "it's not Bush, it's just being impressed with Clark. An ex-GOP-er (freshly ex) was also introduced.
Clinton knows about star power.

7. Clark hasn't fought for the people?
He has fought for people more than any of other candidates. He sacrificed more than any of them. He lived in about 30 places in 35 years of service. Clark has been working on policy debates in America. He was developing political-military policy for the US when he was a J-5. If you don't think that Clark can win, then you have nothing to worry about. But if you think that he shouldn't win, then let's see what happens in the election. People will decide.

I don't think Clinton said this publicly.

8. On the other hand, nomination and office are not rewards for a candidate.
In fact, I would usually bet against a candidate chosen in part because it was "his turn". Too backward-looking for my taste. The war horse may be the best candidate, but for other reasons, mainly electability.

Of course, ANY dem nom gets all the votes I can muster.

This is the same Clinton who we know is no saint, the same one who bombed the smithereens out of Iraq on a daily basis for 8 years, forced those obscene sanctions on the UN so much that the UN was on the verge of a revolt, and had his own nasty little war where innocents were killed as the mighty US military pulverized hospitals and schools littering Yugoslavia with Depleted Uranium...

The same Clinton who recently told us to just get over it...

The same one we admired until we found out how much he let us down & down

The same one who send Sendy Berger and Madeleine Albright out to OSU to see how much support he would get for a war against Iraq.

GATT, NAFTA, WTO...

Yeah... our master Bilderberger salesman. Clinton's endorsement means very little... More confirmation of DLC involvement. Sandy Berger and Madeleine Albright have also endorsed Clark.

21. You can tell that Clark is picking up momentum
by the harsh posts against him and Big Dawg. Oh well, I just returned from a large get together in Sacramento which included friends and family many of whom are Repugs, one gentleman is a vice-pres of Visa and a very staunch Repug, his disgust of * was on display, he is so pissed he openly stated that his favorite saying was that "some village in Texas is missing an idiot". Bottom line is that he will not vote for * and the "only" alternative for him is Clark. Out of the 65 people there we could only find 3 people that would vote for * again. Alot of conversation grew out of the bumper sticker on my car "draftclark" because no one could believe that I actually would put a sticker on my car. I've had my little convertible for 10 years and have been meticulous with it and been made fun of how I take care of it and they saw this sticker and thought I had gone crazy, generated exactly the kind of conversation I wanted. Ultimately even if these people don't vote for Clark it set the stage for a tremendous amount of * bashing and many Repugs seeing the error of their ways and wishing for a change. I was a bad weekend for *, most large majority were disgusted with *'s attempt at "connecting" with the people on Sunday evening, you should have heard the dissing and hissing, the very few (3) * supporters were very quiet and did not attempt to stick up for him. ! was actually embarassed and suggested that he should just "shut up"

We're not going to let you deliver up the country to the Bushes for another four years so you can preserve the delicious pleasures of self-righteous helplessness and avoid the ooh-ick compromises of power. We're not going to listen to the dumbass "theories" of people who don't know the difference between a google search and knowledge. We're not going to hand over our politics to people whose totalitarian mentalities prevents them from working with people who disagree with them one iota on any issue -- i.e., we're not handing our politics over to people who don't believe in politics, don't believe in democracy.

Ta-ta. It's over.

25. Nasty, but makes a point worth debate.
How much are we willing to give up on one of our candidates? What issue can we let go. In this instance with Clark, he is pro-gun, anti-assault weapon. I can't imagine that Clark will get the second amendment repealed. I can deal with that position because others are more important to me. I also think that the writer is asking the question: What's more important to you, having an opinion or sacrificing a little for the overall good. It is an ABB principle.

27. "the having an opinion/sacrificing a little for the overall good"
thing is lost on me, I'm ABB btw. This post was just a complete attack on anyone who supports (I am assuming) Dean, and it foolishly assumes that Clark will win the nomination because the Big Dawg mentioned his name. You read the wrong things into my post, but there's not many ways you can read that post, and I've already stated my opinion on that. As for Clark, if he doesn't declare by the end of September, then he will be out of the race functionally, so for your sake, I hope he declares soon:)

36. "lefto-greenies"
I was assuming from the Clark support that it wouldn't be an attack on Kerry (who is further left than Dean) and Nader is irrelevant to this discussion, so I assumed that that left Dean. And the Nader flaming has died down lately, I'd like to keep it that way. I'm not a fan, but it's counter-productive. Do you really think this poster was referring to Nader? Heck, let's ask the poster: Were you referring to Nader with that extremely rude post?

There are tons of idiots here whose bizarre compulsion for ideological "purity" (and ironically, Clark probably represents these people's views better than the majority of the existing field) makes them unable or unwilling to support certain potential Democratic nominees...who represent the only chance we have to unseat Bush.

I have little but scorn for these people.

41. Varies from Person to Person
Clark gets a lot of hate solely for his military background, IMO.

Speaking for myself, I think Clark certainly has the best chance, but I will vote for WHOEVER the Democratic nominee is (and yes, that includes Lieberman). I will not turn up my nose at the only chance we have to unseat Bush simply because of some lame ideological purity test.

The entire current field, plus Clark, are all better than Bush.

31. Charlie Rangel supports Clark.
U.S. Congressman Charles Rangel of New York, a top politician in that state, has made a commitment to help Clark in New York, Dillard said.

"When you really look at it, we need a person with good morals, we need good leadership, we need somebody that can turn this economy around, somebody that can rebuild our relationships with what used to be our friends around the world that kind of stepped aside once we went into Iraq," Dillard said. "That is what I am looking at, a candidate that in my mind can lead us and do the things that this country is needing."

43. People, stop making it about Clinton
Clinton will fall in behind whomever is nominated. Clinton is not the problem right now. Bush is the problem. Clinton is no longer in office. Bush is in office. The task here is to get him OUT of office, not to praise/bash Clinton. Once Bush is out of there, THEN we can start haggling about progressive vs. centrist, et al. I like what Krugman said the other day. He said he'd love to see the day come when once again we can vociferously argue about the pros and cons of globalization. At the present, he says, we have other, more pressing things to worry about.
