4. Do you believe this is a turning point?
Why yes, yes I do. Things are going to get worse just like they got worse after the "Mission Accomplished" debacle.

5. A tad simplistic?
I think it's a turning point that brings us closer to the inevitable civil war. Can you imagine cobbling together a single document, aka constitution, that will make the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds equally happy?

Especially since so many Sunnis boycotted the election?

7. Plus the fact that there WEREN'T ANY FUCKING NAMES ON THE BALLOTS!!!
I mean, it's like voting for the Democrat and discovering Bob Novak won the election because he was the "Democrat".

23. call bullshit all you want
Iraqi newspapers Thursday published for the first time the names of some 7,000 candidates for the new National Assembly. Many of the candidates' identities had been kept secret to protect them from assassination.

26. I concede the point, however, knowing the candidate's name three days
before the election hardly constitutes free and fair elections. There was no campaign, ergo, there was no election.

6. This is a "multi-generational war" according to PNAC
There is only one way we will get out and that's if the American public understand it to be the debacle that it really is.

The election is a sham. They didn't have ANY FUCKING NAMES ON THE BALLOT!

In other words, the fix is in and the "winners" were picked ages ago. It's a scam.

28. The names are there, at least in Arabic,
No, I am Jordanian and we caught part of the ballot on the news. I could make out some names and parties. There was another language that I couldn't read. Are you saying this part was telling them how to vote? That would be "mashnoon" (crazy), someone would talk.

15. What democracy are you talking about?
If there was actually any going on, I would be in favor of it.

But since the only thing going on is genocide, infrastructure disruption, plundering natural resources (oil), and a holy war.... I'm not in favor.

We should get out anyway, but waiting for this so-called "democracy" is foolish.

8. Success?
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 02:50 PM by liberal N proud
How can you call an election day where people were blown up, a success?
Turning point? How many times have we been at turning points with this regime?
Edit to add:
Complete results days away

Officials said turnout among the 14 million eligible voters appeared higher than the 57 percent that had been predicted in advance by Iraqi officials, although complete voting results are not expected for days.

Polls were largely deserted all day in many cities of the Sunni Triangle. In Baghdad’s mainly Sunni Arab area of Azamiyah, the neighborhood’s four polling centers did not open at all, residents said.

A low Sunni turnout could undermine the government that will emerge from the vote and worsen tensions among the country’s ethnic, religious and cultural groups.

“It is hard to say that something is legitimate when whole portions of the country can’t vote and doesn’t vote,” Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., said on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”

10. If you take the poll, Say "NO" here's the reason....
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 02:54 PM by Tigress DEM
The poll asks the innocuous question, "Do you think the elections are a turning point?" Then when it shows the results it says you said, "yes" to: "Do you think the elections in Iraq are a success in and of themselves"

Shoddy journalism and I added my two cents to say so

13. Set the expectations high
The killings should stop tomorrow. The election was an overwhelming success and mission accomplished!

Set the expectations high, because we all know things are going to get worse from here on out just like they got worse in Vietnam while we had a puppet regime in charge.

14. DU the poll?
so progressives have a vested interest in perpetuating a perception that nothing good can or will come of this?

must further delegitimizing bush include hopes for chaos and rooting against any baby steps toward stabilization in iraq?

guess walt didn't get enough blood and guts in his "let's celebrate the body count" thread last night.

17. "perpetuating a perception that nothing good can or will come of this"
It's not a perception, it is the reality on the ground.

So to you I say: please stop trying to perpetuate the perception that this EVER was in any way for the benefit of the people of Iraq.

Stop trying to perpetuate the perception that this is anything but genocide, a criminal war.

Stop trying to perpetuate the perception that the leaders of this country did not lie to the US congress and US citizens about the war's motivations, goals, costs and methods.

16. What Does That Question MEAN??? A Turning Point?? HUH??
A turning point for the good? A turning point for the worse? A turning point for the status quo... neither good nor bad?

The CNN poll-question writer has been hired by MSNBC.

25. Has the poll ended? I couldn't vote.
I wish they would make a poll that asks whether we believe the BULLSHIT they are spewing.

The was NO election in Iraq.
The was NO election in Iraq.
The was NO election in Iraq.

It never happened. It's just a TV fantasy paid for by Bush&Co.
