With a $400 BILLION DoD budget, why do our troops still need razors?
Sorry if this is a dupe, but I saw this site on bartcop today and was appalled:

http://www.anysoldier.com

This site is dedicated to connecting volunteers from the military units in the Middle East with folks back home to send care packages and letters to the troops in the field.

I spent most of my day (much to my boss' displeasure, if he knew) reading again and again how these kids who gave up there lives to serve our nation cannot get even the most basic necessities. To read that our soldiers cannot get razors, soap, socks, tampons, even ramen noodles, while our President danced the night away at party after party last Thursday is simply disgusting.

I strongly encourage those who say that they support the troops, even while opposing their idiotic mission in Iraq, to go to this site and help these guys out.

Sorry if this seems like a rant, but seeing this just made me nauseous!

Peace.

4. Only if you view him as the head of our military.
Or as the guy who makes the decisions about when we go to war, and what types of support they get.

Other than that....

7. Good point. I mean, its not like Bush is Commander in Chief or anything
and even if he were, it's not as though he flaunts that title. It's not like he has a jacket that says "commander in chief"... ... oh ... wait. Nevermind.

8. enjoy your stay pop
and hell yes it's Bush's fault. If not for the lying weasel and his minions, those troops would be 2 blocks from a Walgreen's (or PX)

no surprise they can't get razors since they couldn't get armor to protect their vehicles and now, two years later they still don't have the armor they need, or the razors, or meals or the health care they need upon return from an illegal war for oil.

Yes, popcap I blame Bush and all his neocon crooks...

10. Correct - The Buck Stops Here....(well it used to)

Bush* should be stepping up and claiming responsibility, then taking action to remedy the problem by calling Rumsfeld on the carpet to demand answers.....I think the buzzword is accountability - or the lack of it.

2. I think they'd give up even wanting razors
or tampons if they could just get armored vehicles or body armor.

And yes, it IS Bush's fault that they don't have it.

12. Actually several ask for that, too.
But you must admit, after two weeks without soap, deodarant, or toothpaste, you might get a little agitated :)

15. True
but if it came down to smelling myself or having a better chance of surviving an attack in order to smell myself...I know which one I'd pick.

22. Col. Moore might disagree
IIRC Galloway wrote that while he was hugging the earth in the Il Drang Valley(sp), Moore told him to shave just like any other trooper.

3. 2 million tax dollars to buy Presidential yacht, last December
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 09:47 PM by oscar111
360 billion taxcuts for the rich, so far during first four years. That will apply each year, when made permanent.

Almost double DOD budget, if rolledback. Buys a lot of soap and ramen noodles.

It IS all bush's fault. All of it.

5. I support the troops, but
I want to find a charity for the Iraqis whose lives we've destroyed. They need more help.

9. If you go to the site you'll find that alot of the posts
ask for stuff they can give to the local people. Toys and candy for the kids, blankets and clothing in general. Most of the guys there just want to help the people. They have to deal with stuff everyday I can't imagine. I was actually amazed at how many list that sort of thing.

13. I did go to the site
Heartbreaking. Did you notice how many people won't eat in the (Halliburton run) cafeteria tents?

I saw a posting from a soldier whose cafeteria was part of the bombing next month, the unit has been living on MRE's ever since. You'd think for $200 billion they would have been able to rebuild the cafeteria by now, but there is oil to steal and profits to make, so the troops eat crap.

6. No shit. It is so disgusting to see things like this
Why do our troops have problems getting things like this? Why isn't this administration, who supposedly respects the troops and the military, denying them some of the most basic items?

And, meanwhile, they cut taxes for the rich, spend millions on Haliburton (who overcharges us), and spend $40 million celebrating themselves.

That is why I believe that republicans are so full of shit. They don't care about the troops, they don't care about the Iraqi people, they don't care about a God damned thing.

14. $40 million buys
lots of Ramen noodles and maxi pads. But Bush did have that prayer session for the troops the day before the inaugural, don't you know! That should be enough supporting the troops for this administration.

16. What did George Washington do during the Revolution?
He spent nite after nite in camp writing letters to the Confederation (I think that is what they were called) for supplies.

18. Because the military doesn't provide razors
They are not "issue" items. We bought our own.

19. Yep our troops in Iraq should just pop on down to the corner store and buy
razors.

21. Sorry my dear but you haven't got a clue.
AAEFES is in the BAGHDAD AIRPORT and in the GREEN ZONE and there are shoppettes in some camps, but MOST the camps DO NOT have even that.

And too bad about the troops who have no family members to send them razors.

Your "OVERWHELMING SUPPORT" for the troops sure does confirm what I think you are; as in a total waste of time.

And yes, in fact, I DO know of what I speak. When were YOU last in Iraq?
