About That 80 Billion For Iraq. Does Congress KNOW About The Real Plan?

For all in congress who poo-pooed the PNAC plan for long term (forever) presence in the ME, The facts speak for themselves here. The 14 Permanent US Military Bases! The multi-million dollar Permanent communications systems?! Do They KNOW about this? If they do, do they dare bring this up when the WH presents their plan for BILLIONS more for Iraq??

White House officials refused to comment on the war spending package, which will be presented as the United States confronts a new string of violence in Iraq as that country's Jan. 30 elections approach.


The forthcoming request underscored how the war spending has clearly exceeded initial White House estimates. Early on, then-presidential economic adviser Lawrence Lindsey placed Iraq costs of $100 billion to $200 billion, only to see his comments derided by administration colleagues.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Monday it was Congress' "highest responsibility" to provide the money that American troops need. But in a written statement, she said Democrats would ask questions about Bush's policies there.

"What are the goals in Iraq, and how much more money will it cost to achieve them? Why hasn't the president and the Pentagon provided members of Congress a full accounting of previous expenditures?," Pelosi added.

.. So do Pelosi and the other Dems in Congress even know about the "Permanent Presence" Plan of the WH???

Though the media ignored Kerry's statement and failed to do any substantive follow-up research, his comments were well-grounded in reality. On the day of the debate the Christian Science Monitor spotlighted the findings of defense specialist John Pike, whose website, GlobalSecurity.org, located twelve "enduring bases" in Iraq, including satellite photos and names. In March, the Chicago Tribune reported that US engineers were constructing fourteen such long-term encampments--the number Kerry referred to. The New York Times previously placed the number at four.


While the exact figure may change, suspicions of undisclosed US imperial plans--exemplified by permanent military bases--rightfully linger. Before the war, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz suggested moving US troops stationed in Saudi Arabia into Iraq. In October, a survey by the University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes found that two-thirds of respondents disapproved of a permanent military presence, even though more than half thought the US would build the bases anyway.


Now comes a report in the New York Sun by Eli Lake revealing that the Pentagon (news - web sites) is building a permanent military communications system in Iraq, a necessary foundation for any lasting troop presence. The new network will comprise twelve communications towers throughout Iraq, linking Camp Victory in Baghdad to other existing (and future) bases across the country, eventually connecting with US bases in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan (news - web sites).

She has gone far (on TV too!) to question condi about the truth. I am disappointed more is not made of the obvious long term stay the US is planning. Sometimes I think they really just don't know.

4. And Boxer is virtually all alone. A voice in the wilderness. If this was

a democratic president and he was asking for 80 billion to feed starving kids Rush, Hannity, Ann, Fox News and every republican talking head and politician on the planet would be attacking him in unison. Using the same language to attack his or kids, dog and every thing in his life to prove how unstable and reckless the demon democratic president was for wasting taxpayer money on frigging little starving kids who's parents should have gotten a job.

But our side leaves Boxer swinging in the wind. John Kerry at least had the courage to vote no, but even he made the inane statement of "you will be confirmed anyway." WTF people? Its not like the evidence isn't there.
