Report: U.S. can't win Iraq war
http://washtimes.com/upi-breaking/20050122-094419-5388r.htm

IMHO, the war was lost before it started but beyond that let me state exactly where it was lost:

When the looting started. Which was a direct result of not having enough troops on the ground (the Powell/Shinseki Doctrine which the neo-cons castigated) resulting in a lack of security.

Bremer's dismantling of the Iraqi Army and then sending them home also had the effect of deploying insurgents throughout the country (sort of like how Scott Ritter described squeezing a handful of Jello. All you end up doing is disbursing the problem and making it worse and harder to combat)

Iraq is indeed a "CATASTROPHIC SUCCESS"

1. It's a success for defense contractors.
I think when they disbanded the army they were saying. Hey aren't you guys gonna fight. Go home take a vacation regroup and we'll see you in Fallujah or whereever.

2. Walk Back the Cat
Who has benefitted? Defense contractors, Big Oil (more reserves and much higher prices), Wall Street (good equity investments in energy and defense post 9/11), White UpperClass Washington, DC and its white suburbs (much more government spending on fatherland security and defense).

The War isn't "lost" - it's only just begun.

3. That'll get people to say 'pull them out of iraq' - so just in time so the

troops can go to Iran.

The media is kissing Bush again. May as well get used to it.

Oh, and when we pull out like a rapist would do his victim, the victim would retaliate. Expect the Iraqis to do whatever to destroy their oil fields. I fear the US' dreamy ambition has already been defeated by reality.

And the US troops were told NOT to interfere when the looting began...
