Bright moment on a dark day.

I stopped for gas at a store today. (Yah, NoDD day, but my car was on fumes)

The lovely young cashier took my money and said "I like your bumper stickers" and "I agree with you". It took me by surprise. I said "Yah, it's a bad day" She said, "Don't worry. It will get better."

It was the first time anyone has mentioned my bumper stickers in this repooplican area where I live. I have my Kerry/Edwards, my DU sticker and my RE-beat Bush window sticker.

Maybe I was emotionally vulnerable, but the young girl's optimism made me tearful on the ride home. I don't necessarily feel the hope of the future like she does, but its good to know there are liberal youth out there.

1. I'm glad you had such a moment.

I get a lift whenever I'm driving behind someone who has anything anti-bush, pro-evolution, pro-woman or whatever on their vehicle. It reminds me that we're not alone... we're one of the proud 48 - 49% of superior Americans who have a clue.

And the girl was right. It will get better. It has to!

3. I honk and wave at people when I see liberal stickers

Which usually scares the hell out of them even though my stickers are similar.

Geez, I need to move to a blue state.

5. I had two very different bright moments

First, there was a surprise celebration at my office, which is at least 90 percent Democrats, so it was unrelated to the Great, Greedy Spectacle of Doom - just well timed. It was really fun and uplifting.

Then, on the way home, I was surprised to pass what looked like about 100 protestors in front of the local newspaper, making a pretty big noise. That's huge, compared to the two to six people who stand on the corner in front of the post office every Friday - and incidentally, I really admire and appreciate those people. I got all choked up and did the most excellent job of freaking out my 15-year-old son. :)
