Besides OIF, what's the dumbest conflict in the world today?

My vote is for the battle for the Siachen Glacier in the Kashmir region of the Karakorum range.

Here's a map of the contested area:

The glacier is the most prominent feature of the Saltoro mountain range, which lies at the extreme northwest of India's Karakorum region.

Bordering on Pakistan and China it is an extremely pristine environment, yet environmentalists say that the military activities have sent tons of chemicals onto the surface of the glacier, polluting the headwaters of the Indus River.

Oh, and here's a tidbit:

In the near future Indian and U.S. forces are to hold joint mountain-warfare exercises in Alaska for the first time -- the climate and terrain in Alaska matches conditions in Siachen.

2. The Ethiopia-Eritrea War was pretty stupid.

Two of the poorest countries on earth fighting over desert.

It's officially "over" now, but they still clash regularly.

The war in the Congo (4 million dead and rising) is an ignored tragedy on an obscene scale; that's pretty stupid.

3. All wars are pretty stupid, when you come right down to it.

They can generally be traced to a few rich men who want more and are willing to whip up a whole population into a frenzy of fear and hatred to get it.

That glacier might be useful for a macho sports tourist trap. The worst real estate in the world has value to some rich man, somewhere.
