Thanks to all for the WalMart info last night, A little more help please
Went to the public hearing and it turns out about 85% of the people there were against having WalMart come to our small town. I think lwfern's fliers really helped too. Some people will actually have Walmart replace the beautiful fields they have in thier backyards, literally.

Good News: This was the first of two public hearings. The next one will be on the 25th with the city council. We are going to start a petition to bring to the next public hearing. We have never done anything like this before so a little help and advice would be appreciated. Any ideas on what the petition should say, or how to get the most signatures, our plans right now are to go door-to-door.

Are there any pre existing petitions online anywhere that anyone knows about.

Thanks

1. Door to door is OK,
but you should also consider having people with petitions outside local stores, the ones that will be damaged the most if Wal-Mart moves in. Politely greet people as they come to shop and explain that the store they are patronizing may disappear if Wal-Mart is allowed in.

5. If you don't have one, keep them out
The one thing they destroyed here that has never come back is the hardware store. Nobody could compete with their offerings of blister packs of the most commonly used hardware, pots and pans, and gardening supplies, and they all went under. The only thing left is Home Depot, and we all know they're as bad as Walmart.

All those mom & pop stores might be more expensive, but they do supply a variety that Walmart can't match, along with service that allows you to special order anything they don't stock. Walmart's stuff is stripped down and censored, and once they move in, that's all you ever get.

6. I found this petition
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/778627631

Maybe that will help you out some. Looks like you can create your own on that site, or at least use it as a model for a hard copy.

Good luck!
