This sort of thing is why America's economy is dying
Oracle bought PeopleSoft at the end of a long hostile takeover battle when the PeopleSoft board finally gave in to the pressure and sold.

Now Oracle is going to be laying off over half the PeopleSoft employees -- by Federal Express.

No joke.

Oracle appears to be adding insult to injury in its merger with PeopleSoft--taking the unusual step of notifying workers of their termination by sending pinks slips via express mail to their homes.

As earlier reported, shipments to thousands of PeopleSoft employees across the country are expected over the weekend, according to sources close to the company. Those spared pink slips will get packages too--containing new Oracle employment contracts.

That makes it a nail-biting weekend for many PeopleSoft employees, who number more than 11,000 worldwide. Oracle may cut as many as 6,000 jobs, according to its own earlier estimates. It plans to announce the official number Friday.

"The view of most of the employees out there is that it's a really callous way to do it," said Joe Davis, chief executive of Coremetrics and a former group vice president at PeopleSoft, who stays in touch with his former co-workers.

Nice, eh?

1. People tend to think of anti monopoly as just keeping prices down
but it went a long way towards keeping employment up also.

2. Something I've Learned From The "Airlines" Discussions
Even a lot of self-professed intelligent liberals will sell anyone else down the river for the sake of a cheap ticket--or any other discount. Wal-Mart? Cool! It's only when they themselves get burned that they give a damn.

most liberals propose paying fairly for what they want, i.e. gas is too low, walmart damages producer nations by paying too little for the product.

you must have mistaken freekrepublic for a liberal board.

4. There is something you seem not to have learned.
That something is the nearly unanimous dislike of Walmart by DUers. Many of us have never set foot inside a Walmart.

What "Airlines" Discussions" are you talking about? And why is the phrase in capitalized and put into quotation marks in such a strange fashion?

How have you missed all the threads about buying blue, and the links to companies that support Democrats?

Finally, have you misplaced your profile?

5. A Few Answers
Example: during one discussion at AmericaBlog, a "proudly liberal" regular laughed when I mentioned wage cuts facing airline employees, blamed the unions, and bragged about the fantastic savings he would now reap. (I'm one of those employees; he was aware of that.)

There seems to be some confusion about the difference between "some" or "a lot" (as in, "even a lot of self-professed intelligent liberals will sell anyone else down the river for the sake of a cheap ticket"), and ALL. I'm not attacking everybody.

Re the rest of the questions: If anyone's fishing for something to "out" a Freeptard troll, you're barking up the wrong tree--and/or overreacting to the mistaken perception of a threat.

My point was simply this: people say one thing and often do another. Talk is the ultimate cheap ticket.

6. It's stunning
At least US Airways has a fighting chance now though.

I don't fly discount carriers unless forced to -- I am not confident in their safety or quality of service for the most part. When you "outsource" plane maintenance to Mexican companies, it makes me nervous.
