Bush Inaugural Fund-Raising Hits $18M; Short Of $40M Goal
Awww, gee, that's too bad...

Friday January 7, 5:57 PM EST

WASHINGTON (AP)--The team collecting private donations to finance President George W. Bush's inaugural festivities has taken in $18 million, putting it nearly halfway to its goal of at least $40 million.

Bush's inaugural committee raised about $4.5 million of that total over the last week, according to updated donor information posted Friday on its Web site.

The latest donors include Cinergy Corp. (CIN), an energy company whose businesses include electric and natural gas distribution in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Cinergy was among those donating $250,000 to become inaugural " underwriters" and receive a sponsorship package that includes tickets to various inaugural week events featuring President Bush, first lady Laura Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne.

Other new $250,000 underwriters include AT&T (T); Bank of America (BAC); Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMY); United Parcel Service (UPS); San Diego Chargers owner Alex Spanos; American Financial Group (AFG) of Cincinnati and one of its top executives, Carl H. Lindner; New Energy Corp. of South Bend, Ind.; Thomas Stephenson, a partner in Sequoia Capital in Atherton, Calif.; and Maryland-based Strongbow Technologies Corp.

1. awwwww!

Those corporate whores don't know what to do.

Faced with a possible revolution, they don't know where their bread is buttered, or whose ass to kiss first.

5. Glad I don't work for UPS anymore!
Cannot believe the way their stock jumped after the election. Note their healthy contribution according to the article. Now, everything is USPS.

9. Asscrofts little ditty to be sung by Lawrence Welk singer at coronation
Trent Lott is helping organize the coronation and from the Boston Globe:
"Guy Hovis, a vocalist from Tupelo, Miss., who performed on the Lawrence Welk show, will sing, ''Let the Eagle Soar," a song written by outgoing Attorney General John Ashcroft. Thomas Basile, a spokesman for the committee, said the song is a favorite of Lott's. "

14. If they don't reach their target, expect Bush to claim he's cutting back
because of the tsunami tragedy. Count 15 seconds and then watch his eyes well up with unshed tears. The man is 100% fraWd.

16. Does that mean they'll make up the difference
with our tax dollars? They seem to think it's okay to use our tax money for things they shouldn't (Armstrong Williams).
