1. Cannot watch it. Could you provide information on what is said?
Franken and Jon Stewart, previously known as satirists, are becoming two of the only reliable commentators of what is going on in America.

10. Typical 3 anti-Franken talking points
Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 10:52 AM by Junkdrawer
1.) Harvard Prank was a Lie... (It's called satire.)

2.) He is Coulter-Like shrill... (Again, it's called satire.)

3.) Liberals could use talk radio too. Maybe you're jealous... (Franken gave Limbaugh credit. He should have brought up the Randi Rhodes affair (She has better ratings in her market than Limbaugh, but Clear Channel won't syndicate her nationally because Limbaugh has threatened to quit if they do.)

2. Hes talking about the media
and how there are many biases, but fox is conservatively biased

-asked why the president is popular, says he isnt that popular, the press is finally getting courage back, the right wing media has made the mainstream media afraid to be called liberal

4. DIscussing rich lowery
and how he called liberals sissies, so franken challenged him to a fight, just the story in his book, and how it was charecterized wrong in the post

now being asked about the harvard letterhead abstinence issue
-"this is whats called a prank" he brings up candid camera, then he goes into the issue of abstinence training and that reputable institutions say abstinance only isnt good enough "it was a joke" "its not like ann coulter lies to her readers."

Asked about sinking to coulter's level
-even republicans say off the record that there is something wrong with her, but he uses strong meanness for humor and to fight back against mean people

5. on conservative talk radio
-they did it first and found an audience, made talk radio conservative, so liberals cant grab same audience, compared it to switching formats on a music station, mentioned starting up a liberal network "npr without the stories about appalacian quilts"

end of segment

7. Pretty good appearance
Talked about prospect of him doing a liberal radio show; discussed why they haven't been terribly successful to date.

Says RW got there first and difficult to mix liberal show in with current lineup (Rush, etc) b/c the audiences are too different to allow right and left wing shows to air in the same time frame. Says stations/advertisers fear loss of listeners/revenue if they mix it up.

11. Tucker on Britney
Saying he "couldn't be mean" to her after the "trust the president" answer even though it was stupid. Heh.

12. DEFENDING? He said he was a phony like Gore.
Nixon, Colson, and Segretti started that meme smear against Kerry and it stayed thanks to Atwater and Rove.

13. Saletan said Kerry disappointed the press
for not attacking Dean during the debate. He's not entertaining the press as much as Dean's anger does. Heh...they just would have spun it against Kerry anyway.

14. For the better
Saletan just wanted entertainment in the debate rather than substance. It's not like he was going to agree with any of the candidates anyway. I think Kerry was fine to act as he did. Got to keep his dignity while letting Lieberman be the one to come across as an asshole and draw the groans from the audience.

15. Agree with you.
Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 11:20 AM by RUMMYisFROSTED
Having Tucker "defend" Kerry is like having Starr "defend" Clinton. More crap from the people who bring you Slate.
