Sandra Bullock gives one million dollars to tsunami relief operation

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Actress Sandra Bullock (news) has given one million dollars to the American Red Cross (news - web sites) to boost its tsunami relief campaign, the organisation said.

The funds from the Hollywood actress will be used to provide relief supplies, financial support and technical assistance, the American Red Cross said in a statement.

"Bullock contacted the Red Cross last week to make this, her second million dollar gift, to the American Red Cross," added the statement.

The star of "Speed" and "While You Were Sleeping" also gave one million dollars after the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington.

28. Yeah, the "liberal, godless, decadent" Hollywood
Seem to understand more what Christianity is all about than the American Taliban ever did.

43. How can Hollywood be so out of touch with values?
When the actors and actresses lived and were raised throughout the United States? If anyone represents the American values it would be the actors and actresses more than any small group living in one isolated section.

I hate it when ANY politician talks about small town family values, Midwest family values and most important Hoosier family values. How can they say that the family values they are campaigning about are better than some other state or area of the country? How can they say that small town family values per se are the same in every small town?

41. Bullock is also 100% responsible for getting George Lopez's show on tv
He said she told him that living in Texas and seeing so many hispanics she felt like they should be represented on tv. She has guest-starred on that show twice, which is pretty amazing. It is a really funny show, and the character of his mom is based on his grandmother, the woman who raised him (his childhood apparently was not full of laughter).

45. It probably looks better in the intended light
When you've got "enough" makeup on for television or film and you go out in natural light, you look like a refugee from the Jan Crouch School of Cosmetic Arts. But under HMI lighting, you look fine.

I don't even want to think about what Jan Crouch looks like in daylight.

I usually buy used DVDs, but a new one would put money into her pocket.

OTOH, I could send an additional $15 to the Red Cross and an email to Bullock. :)

Good for Ms. B., I say, and good for the many people whose names we will never know but who have opened their hearts and their wallets.

Perhaps this will nudge a few singers, actors, financiers, et al in the right direction.

21. It's things like this...
that should make us support more of her efforts. Not only the movies she stars in, but also the movies and TV shows she produces. If we support helping our neighbors, it makes us better world citizens, not just better US citizens. This million dollars will earn us more peace, security and respect then ten times that amount of money in weapons of war.

I was never a big fan but have seen her do some things I liked, just wishy washy on her I guess but now... Now I will go to her movies just simply because I feel like supporting someone with that much money who has not lost the feeling of caring for others. She is a humanitarian, good for her.

...than many of our leaders seem to possess.

Sandra seems to have all of the "compassion" that conservatives like to crow about.
