5. You are the Government
Welcome to f***ing America. In America everybody is equally responsible for the country, that's what a democracy means. That's why American Democrats who opposed this vicious war in Iraq set up by President Bush still feel responsible for it to a certain extent.

THat's what democracy means. If you don't like democracy, might I suggest there are places all over the world where you can happily live and feel no responsibility at all towards the central authority.

6. Yeah, right. I'm sure * agrees with that.
"Hey Squatch, part of this debt is yours. How about you let me know how we should spend this money"

This is rich:

bryant69 says:

"If you don't like democracy, might I suggest there are places all over the world where you can happily live and feel no responsibility at all towards the central authority."

Ha, ha, ha...Really, that's classic. Sort of like "If you're not with us, your against us."

9. Yup. Every time somebody whines about taxes, all I can think of
is, whose country is this? You want to live here, enjoy the life this country offers, but you want it for free? We are the government. We all contribute so we can keep the darn thing going. Of course the money should be spent sensibly and not wasted, but right now "the taxpayers" are not being screwed -- the US has the lowest tax rates of any industrialized country. And the result of that (aside from the fact that millions of people don't have medical care) is a horrendous deficit that has the potential to destroy the standard of living that at least some of us now enjoy, and prevent the rest of us from ever rising from poverty.

12. LOL! What's with all the deleted messages in this thread?
people a little hot under the collar?

If the Repugs are going to blow their cover so often, they better go back to the neocon sites.

The is DEMOCRATIC Underground, after all. Gets tiresome having to battle trolls on nearly every thread. There goes progress and meaningful discussion

I'm hitting alert more often from now on.

7. The problem with meme patrol is.....
ChrisLiberal: It's not a tax cut, it's only a giveaway for the rich, and an increase in the national debt.

Cletus: It sho 'nuff is a tax cut - looky here at my extra $126 tax refund!

ChrisLiberal: But you actually pay far more than your extra $126 in a jillion little ways: higher healthcare costs, food costs, job insecurity, and so forth.

Cletus: You sayin I's stupid? That's the problem with you liberals - always on your high horse tryin to tell everybody how smarts yous is...
==========

And then, adding insult to injury, a full half of DU - ChrisLiberal's own damn team - starts posting crap about how Democrats don't respect the south, how all the "reverse racism" is such a problem, so on....

The (only) problem with meme patrol is that it's hard to see it actually working successfully...

10. How about birth tax?
Every citizen born in this country for years to come is going to be stuck with paying off this debt.

11. Glad to see the BT meme has taken root!
:)

After tossing it about here for the last few months, we heard someone on the radio refer to it as the "baby tax." Close enough. They get the idea.

13. That sounds nice!
It's time we get in the "rhetoric war." We've been losing that for almost 40 years.
