The RW is persecuting everybody
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 01:25 PM by ck4829
If John Kerry were a Muslim, the RW, Bush, and the 'Crusaders for Truth' (twist of SBVT) would have been hounding him because of that 24/7.

The truth is that the Conservative Christians are the ones doing the persecuting, and we are all victims of it.

We don't want to face their moral hypocrisy (and they dare accuse us of moral relativism), we don't want to see America attacked by terrorists and also get a record deficit, we don't want to see America turned into a Theocracy, and we don't want to see the rich get richer while the poor get poorer.

The RW is persecuting the Liberals, the non-Christians, the Liberal Christians, GLBT people, women, so they are the ones who are trying to push us off a cliff.

1. I saw a church sign that said, "Put Christ Back in Christmas"
My comment was that I hoped the fundies would put Christ back in their brand of Christianity.

2. Perhaps that's a good slogan "Put Christ Back Into Christianity"
We should run with that.

15. It's a wonderful slogan
If people saw more christ like behavior, Respect for christ and his believers might be put back in a lot of places.

5. Get the Cristians out of Saturnia.
It was originally the celebration of the solstice. Christians usurped the celebration when they moved into Europe.

7. You might enjoy this program:
Peter Donalds’ guest, after three, says that with the rise of fundamentalism, too many are willing to suspend common sense in favor of religious beliefs.

Guest: Sam Harris, author, “The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason” www.samharris.org

9. Well. Do you think that any form of faith is the absence of reason?
You can have faith and spiritual beliefs and still be reasonable, however, many of the people I see that talk about faith would indicate otherwise. Because they talk about faith but lack reason. I kind of wonder if they really even have faith.

10. No philosopher here
however, "faith" is defined as "firm belief in something for which there is no proof."

I guess it all depends on what your definition of "reason" is. Harris makes some interesting points in the cited program.

11. Well you are correct.
I just mean that while you don't have to be totally irrational about it. Going after people with a vengance because they don't share your faith.

13. Yeah, like strapping a bomb on yourself
and blowing up innocents or defiling your Constitution by sanctifying discrimination against a group of "undesirables."

Faith to some, craziness to me.

8. I was wondering during mass this morning
just how these fundies can take the peaceful and loving message of Christ and believe the things about the world they believe. Then it became apparent to me that these fundies really rarely speak of Christ. They speak of God to the point that Christ is an afterthought. They speak of "God" as though Jesus is secondary and an entity that must be tolerated and put up with because what Christ preached is so contrary to their "God". I then wondered if it may in fact be true that they are worshipping some other "god" that is vengeful and hateful. God of the Old Testament fits their notion of God much better than Christ's new way . Fundies explain this away with the simpletonistic "Well, the Old Testament is part of the Bible too." Its almost like they're telling Christ, "Yeah, that's all well and good so thank you very much and now sit down and shut up."

12. I think that Jesus matters to them, they have just reduced him
to being their personal passport to heaven and have disregarded all of his teachings, all that he stood for and his ultimate demonstration of what Christian love means.

14. That is why we must band together
If all of the groups you mentioned form an alliance to defeat the radical right, they will succeed! If people on the progressive side continue to fight one another and split in half, then we won't get anywhere!

16. If we're not with them, we must be against them. Small minds
have no room in them for anything different. Scary to think that the smallest of minds are running the country. Yikes! And beam me up Scotty!
