The Rotary Club is a big supporter of our low income senior center, and every year they take a few of us to a hotel for a Christmas lunch. This year I was one of the chosen and enjoyed it very much. I truly appreciate all that the Rotary Club does to help low income seniors like myself.
Most of us have seen the stories about how there are many Americans who get all their news from FAUX and still think that Iraq had WMD, that we actually found WMD in Iraq, or that Sadaam had something to do with 9/11. We know there are a lot of ignorant people.
But the Rotarians don't appear to be ignorant. They all appear to be extremely successful, well-educated, intelligent folks. During the luncheon, they featured a letter written by a Rotary Club member who is in Iraq. He said that he believes that we must and can win this war. Everybody there seemed to agree. Well, except for me. I don't think we can win this war, and I certainly don't believe that winning this war is in any way necessary.
So what's with the Rotarians? Are they just uber-patriots--my country right or wrong types? Do they all depend on FAUX news? Are there some who disagree but simply keep silent as I did, believing that it would be improper to make a public fuss? Could most of them be actually profiting from the war? Could such well-dressed, presentable-looking people actually be as ignorant as they seem? What's up with Rotary?
