1. This is on C-Span-1 right now
It's the question on the Washington Journal this morning. Unbelievable that so many people still believe this lie.

5. Duh!
Every single time Dummy or Rummy mentions Iraq - even today (listen to Bremer) - the word "terrorists" or "terror" follows somewhere in the same sentences. This crap in Iraq is still being sold as part of the war on teror. Why should the public NOT make the inference that Saddam and 9/11 are connected?

The fault lies with the media, that refuse to challenge anyone in this administration, and continue to grovel at their feet. Not one paper has taken on the LIES we've been told. The media is party to it all...forget it.

That's why we're dead in the water - unless someone starts screaming for the media to report the truth.

7. It's been debated on the news....
There have been several books written about it. People choose to be ignorant because it shatters their illusion that murika may be waging an unjust war based on a pack of lies. It frustrates me to no end.

6. Most folks want to believe their president
when your prez is a chronic liar who has been telling this lie for almost two years the people get numb to the truth. Bush couldn't tell the truth if he had to.

8. Which is psychologically more comfortable?
Edited on Sat Sep-06-03 08:32 AM by teryang
The notion that Saddam Hussein is behind the 911 attack or that the executive leaders of our country are liars, who have invaded a country without legal justification, and killed and maimed untold thousands for material and political gain? Of course they have been spouting sanctimonious claptrap invoking god, country and religion in support of their campaign of murder and larceny.

Most Americans willingly imbibe the daily menu of lies and distortions from the media, the clever manipulation of words, to avoid admitting they live under such a criminal regime. If you admit the reality instead of the projection for the mass mind, then you would have to do something about it, or admit that you are a scoundrel.

It's human nature.

10. Get the truth out, turn the drip into a flood
If even half of that 70% learned the truth, imagine how the Iraq war would start to be discussed even in the media. Looks like a job for DUers: we have to spread the truth.

11. Bush hanging by a thread
I almost think it is good that 70% think Saddam was involved. Wait until they find out that it isn't true. They won't be happy. They'll look back at all of Bush's "plain speaking" on the subject and learn a little more about him.

Bush never really said there was a link outright. He just implied it with carefully worded innuendo. He's going to get caught making lying (but technically accurate) implications again, just like with the Niger/uranium lie in the State of the Union.

Maybe this poll will even be what starts the ball rolling.

12. Isn't thet number going UP?!?
I seem to recall that before the Iraq Invasion of 2003 (The 3rd Year of Empire) that number was at 50%.

Goebbels v2.0. Brilliance. All the psychological and psychomanipulative marketing data and human studies turned towards this evil goal of more "kindly and gently" seizing a great Republic for their own dreas of Rule the World.

My God. There really is no such thing as "lies" and "truth" anymore, is there?

"1984" (at least in propaganda terms) is closer than ever.

"Farenheit 451" is here.

13. faux news is primarily responsible for this....
In my little world here in NC this is what I have observed over the last several months. My 2 neighbors, watch faux news nightly (can see from my kitchen window, had to get shutters!) I go to the carwash, faux news is on in the waiting area. Car serviced, faux is on. Went to breakfast this AM at a new place, wont go back, faux news is on. Went to visit relatives next town over, faux news is on. Went home last month to a small town in NY state. My Mother-in-law, parents and several restaurants had faux news on. Now if I am seeing this correctly, faux news propaganda must be far more pervasive than I originally thought. This latest disconnect in the reality of a saddam/9/11 connection seems to bear this out.

14. My blunt answer
Some Americans are still angry over 9/11 and rightfully so. And unfortunately there is a large desire for revenge against Muslims in general. So even if Iraq had "nothing to do with 9/11" that doesn't matter because some people want Muslims and Arabs to pay. That's not how everyone thinks, but it probably explains it.

18. Why no mention of media responsibility here?
The media was just as responsible for spreading this lie. Maybe more so. They need to be held accountable.

The British documents were debunked. Haven't you been following the British press, or is that outside your limited intellectual capacity?
