The Kerik story just gets weirder & weirder
~~~~~~~snip~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Mr. Kerik, a high school dropout and prostitute's son whose mother abandoned the family when he was 2 years old and was possibly murdered by her pimp, could not have had a more different upbringing than the Yale- and Harvard-educated son of privilege who became the 43rd president."
1. Different upbringing, but they're cut from the same cloth.
I've posted that numerous times before, and you're the only one that's at least replied to it in some form of recognition :7
3. A Yale and Harvard educated son who was never any more than an
average (at best) student with a nasty chip on his shoulder and a knack for scheming and a penchant for brutality. They have a lot more in common than they do differences.
6. "Bush was in awe"
But Mr. Kerik, Republicans said, was just the kind of plain-talking law-and-order man held in awe by the president.
"The president loves cops," said a Republican close to the White House who insisted on anonymity because he did not want the president and his advisers to know he was talking about an embarrassing blow-up of a cabinet nomination.
well... that cinches the scrutiny Bush does of cabinet.
22. There's only one decent Texas governor in that picture --- Sam Houston.
It's a shame Sam has to share the photograph with Govs. Goodhair and Georgie.
Who ever it is, Georgie is trying to impress him by straigtening his tie.
Real eye contact, something Bush rarely has - eye contact.
32. You could say that. He was handpicked to stand for election with W.
in 1998 -- after The Family was already committed to a presidential run in 2000.
There is that common denominator between them -- former cheerleaders.
Rick Perry was a cheerleader at Texas A&M. In fact, Rick Perry's Democratic opponent in 1998 was John Sharp. Sharp was the President of the Student Body at A&M during the same years that Perry was cheerleader. The sleepwalking voters elected the Cheerleader in a landslide.
7. Wow. Bumiller noticed that Bushy is a son of priviledge
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 02:56 PM by Lucille
That kinda escaped her when she covered John "who among us doesn't like Nascar" Kerry. In fact, she invented the phony Nascar quote to illustrate just how out of touch Kerry was/is. Only problem: He never said it. The Times didn't bother mentioning this until after the RW press, with an aid and assist from Bumiller colleague, Maureen "I hate every one" Dowd repeated every chance they got.
When Bumiller originally covered the Kerik story, she took dictation from the WH, complacently repeating the anonymous white house sources who told her how tough the vetting process was for Kerik.
Now she's a day late and a dollar short. Since she doesn't do any real reporting, you know, where she has to go a find stuff out, ask questions, review records...what is it called again?...investigate...she has to come up with this bs of comparing personalities and backgrounds. The kind of stuff a 19 year old sophomore does at the last minute for for the class he's required to take but doesn't really care about. Sorry Liz, you still get an "F."
Anyway, it looks like the boy prince is morphing into Bernie "Dawg" Kerik. What a tough guy mobster...Too bad about the video showing him wetting himself for 20 minutes when the planes hit.
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 06:05 PM by matt819
Don't you just wonder about everyone in the WH today looking around and saying, "Hey, I thought you were supposed to look after POTUS today. Who let him out in that get-up?"
Of course, all the red staters are salivating. "Golly, he's just like one of us!" Yeah, right. With $1,000 boots, a $500 hat, and that seriously weird overcoat, he's wearing more than those clowns make in a month. One of us? I don't think so.
8. That's just.......weird.
Weird people....
On the other hand, maybe not so weird to the Bush Administration. Notice Bush picked HIM. What does that tell us? That the cream rises to the top? That we choose the very finest people this country has to offer to lead us? Darwin's Law of the Fittest?
Hardly.
It tells me that Bush wants THUGS ONLY. Smart people, ethical people, people with a conscience and brain need not apply.
And it's going to come back to haunt Bush, very soon.
10. Rudy: Shrub "acted on his OWN instincts"-----Stab, Stab HAH!
GIULIANI sez it wasn't JUST his recommendation on KERIK, that Shrub "acted on his own instincts." Yup, we know about those "gut feelings" of Shrub's. When intelligence about an impending attack is given him, what to do?-------why, go to the pig farm for 30 days.
29. Classism at work in Kerick backlash
First I want to make it clear that I am no fan of Kerick, Giuliani, or Bush. I'm always glad to see W with egg on his face.
This onslaught of media criticism against Kerick, however, seems to have an element of class prejudice. I've heard more than one reporter say, "how did he think he could possibly rise to that level..." etc... They seem to be punishing him for not knowing his place, not staying where he belonged, in the gutters of New York.
I'd like to see the focus move back to the Bush administration and Alberto Gonzales, who was responsible for vetting Kerick.
