So what does Bushco have on Blair?
What do you suppose accounts for his utter spinelessness when it comes to the cabal? Sure, a future Carlyle spot is tempting and such, but could he not have accomplished that (what with the being a world leader and all) without the sickening boot-licking? Is there a skeleton in ToniToneTony's closet THAT big that he just bends right on over without a peep? Are we just misinformed about what he *used* to be?

Help me out here...tinfoil welcome. ;)

3. Originally, he had to trade a promise with Bush..
Blair wanted Bush to go to the UN for the first resolution (Iraq). Bush said he would do it only if Blair promised to back Bush no matter what if Bush decided to go to war. So he was trapped after that - he made a "deal with the devil". So could he part ways now? We will see.

17. That's Bush. This is Blair.
The man is a committed Christian of the old school - I know that doesn't absolve him of hypocrisy (I'm an atheist) but he has three kids and a wife that plainly loves him a lot. There's nothing about him that says paedophile at all. Nothing.

As for "Landslide" as a nickname, an overwhelming election victory is called a landslide in the UK. Blair has won two. Bush has only won one election, as far as I can tell, and that was by 3%. If the nickname comes from anything, it's that.

6. You want tinfoil? Here's one.
The dry run was on the New Zealand Labour Party in the early 80's, where a Social Democratic party was shifted to a Free Market Capitalist one. Blair is a mole, a right-winger (recall his admiration for Thatcher), who has successfully turned a Social Democratic party into a party that is now to the right of centre.

7. An English expatriate friend offered this opinion
when a group of us wondered whether Blair was being blackmailed or threatened.

His take: Blair is indeed smarter than Bush, but he still has a bit of the colonialist mentality of the Anglo-American alliance acting as a civilizing force in the world. At least at the outset, Blair really wanted to believe that Bush aimed to bring democracy to Iraq. Now that it's clear that the situation is a mess, he doesn't know how to get out of it without looking like an idiot, so like Lyndon Johnson in Vietnam, he's just sticking with the policy.

Quite a dangerous gene to have, really. Blair is like Bono with tanks.

11. The way I understood it was that Blair got a guarantee from *
of progress on Israel/Palestine. Hence the road map. But when that fell to bits, Blair was left with nothing, and has now refocused on global warming and the UN. The G8 summit in Edinburgh will be interesting. Climate change is on the agenda, I believe.

"New and improved" version coming tonight!

Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right (3 times)
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight

Preacher man don't tell me heaven is under the earth
I know you don't know what life is really worth
Is not all that glitters in gold and
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light, aay
Stand up for your right. Come on

Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
(Repeat)

Most people think great God will come from the sky
Take away ev'rything, and make ev'rybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You would look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your right, yeah!

Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
Get Up, Stand Up. Life is your right
So we can't give up the fight
Stand up for your right, Lord, Lord
Get Up, Stand Up. Keep on struggling on
Don't give up the fight

We're sick and tired of your ism and skism game
Die and go to heaven in Jesus' name, Lord
We know when we understand
Almighty God is a living man
You can fool some people sometimes
But you can't fool all the people all the time
So now we see the light
We gonna stand up for our right

So you'd better get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight.

Hadn't really thought of that, although considering oil's the genesis of the biggest part of the malarky goings-on these days, it surprises me exactly not at all.
