A question for lurking conservatives/right-wingers/freepers, etc.
First, I'll lay some groundwork:

1. Ann Coulter was born and raised in New Canaan, CT, where the median income is $234,000 a year. She also has a law degree.

2. Though Bill O'Reilly likes to say that he came from a poor family, his own mother told a reporter that the O'Reillys lived in a middle-class town on Long Island and frequently vacationed in Florida when Bill was growing up.

3. Rush Limbaugh's father was a trial lawyer who owned the radio station at which Rush got his first broadcasting job.

And now, my question:

Do you honestly believe that the above individuals (and their colleagues) understand everyday Americans, much less give a damn about them beyond using those people to advance a partisan political agenda?

3. Yeah, any Freeper replying to this would get booted.
Besides, since when does family wealth mean you can, or can't identify with poor Americans.

Kerry & Kennedy aren't exactly hurting for cash.

2. Keep in mind
These folks consider a prep-boy who went to Yale and Harvard, and who spent most of the first 40 years of his life in a drunken stupor to be a "regular guy from Texas".

I'd bet more Bush supporters don't know he was born in Connecticuit than even believe that Saddam was behind 9/11.

6. I told
my students that * was from a wealthy Connecticut family and that * got into Yale because of his daddy. They were shocked! Spoon feed them truth a little at a time. Sometimes I am tempted to tell them that Mrs. * killed someone when she was about their age or that grand daddy was a banker for Hitler just to see what kind of reaction they'll have.

13. Car Wreck

The "official story" is that it was purely an accident. She ran a stop sign and plowed into someone crossing the interesection. However, there are a great many strange things about it that could lead to other conclusions. The common theory is that she was drunk, but the official police report states neither driver was drinking. However, no tests for this were performed.

The person she killed was Michael Douglas, one of her classmates and, some claim, a romantic interest of hers.

Snopes has an article on it confirming the story, but that is, in my view, a bit too slanted as a "better angels of our nature" kind of thing, i.e. underlining the pure accident theory.

22. They think that
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 11:25 PM by poppet
was just when he was in college ... and they said to me "no one plans on being President in college, so you can't hold it against him."

Edit: They wouldn't give the same leeway to Kerry, however. I mentioned to them before the election that 9/11 happened during *'s term and, of course, they said he couldn't be blamed for that either. I then asked them why would anyone want to support a person when all you could do by way of support was make excuses for him. They are too young to vote, but will be 18 in a year or so. They did ask me in all seriousness why Clinton wasn't in jail. Something to do with the Monica thing.

14. Why does the fact that he was born in CT matter? He left when he was
2 years old and wouldn't even remember it.

Anyone with a grain of intelligence must know where the president was born. It's hardly a secret.

21. Alas, We Have To Own Him...
Alas, we Texans have to claim Gee Dubya as one of our own, even if he was born in Connecticut. After all, we also claim Sam Houston (who was born in Tennessee), even if most of us don't claim Ignacio Zaragoza (The Mexican general who defeated the French in the 1862 Battle of Puebla against the French invaders). Zaragoza was born in what is present-day Goliad, Texas.

23. I think it does matter to
some people where his family was from, regardless of when he moved to Texas. When my husband and I moved into the rural outskirts of the small town in Louisiana where we now live (we have since moved from the outskirts into the small town), the first thing our neighbors said to us was "We don't have a lot of outsiders here." I am from PA and my husband is British. Of course, our neighbors were great neighbors and very nice, but we were still "outsiders."

4. A Partisan Political Agenda and
their own self aggrandizement and their own $$$$.

In the end, these three are all about themselves. I don't think any of them actually give a shit about politics. They each developed a good rap and are now simply peddling it. They're performers, pure and simple. Court jesters, class clowns, if you will.

(And did you really expect to get a freeper to out him(it?)self and answer this?)

5. The lurkers here
can't answer your question. Their collective state of cognitive dissonance will not allow it. We know these people don't give a damn about ordinary folk, but the conservatives/right-wingers/freepers have them on a pedestal and are incapable of seeing them for who they really are - hateful, greedy snobs.

8. You left out
Rush Fatball has stated in Wine magazine that his favorite wine is a 1961 Chateau Haut-Brion, sells for 1000$ a bottle. I am sure he sips it while out with the average American worker. Or perhaps, he bonds over a round of golf at a posh country club, just like the everyday man.

Just a bunch of millionaire elitist hypocrites trying to fool the average person into voting for their own personal cash cow, The GOP.

9. I don't think these people
are that committed to their cause. They go where the money is and say whatever it takes to arouse some interest and keep from offending their audience. Of course, they are all out of touch with the reality of life. Even without the doses of pharmaceuticals.

10. I'll give it a try
I'm not a Right Winger or Republican, but I've come out clearly as a moderate, so I'll state the first thing that comes to mind that might be said..

Last time I checked, your candidate (a certain senator from Massachutes) wasn't exactly hurt'n either. In fact, I think 8 of the top 10 richest senators are Democrats (ouchy!, as I take cover!)

15. read the post again
The original post's intent is pretty clear to me..

Ann Culter grew up rich and exclusive
snip
Ann Coulter was born and raised in New Canaan, CT, where the median income is $234,000 a year. She also has a law degree.
snip

So did Limbaugh

snip
Rush Limbaugh's father was a trial lawyer who owned the radio station at which Rush got his first broadcasting job.
snip

O'Reilly.. not sure what the intent was, actually.

snip
Though Bill O'Reilly likes to say that he came from a poor family, his own mother told a reporter that the O'Reillys lived in a middle-class town on Long Island and frequently vacationed in Florida when Bill was growing up.
snip

..It's a non-sequitor and logically incoherent to then ask whether they "give a damn", when the only evidence you've given us can be turned around and used against not only many supporters of the Left (e.g. Trial Lawyers), but our friggn' presidential candidate as well. Keep in mind that Dean supporters used Kerry's background against him bigtime during the primary season.

I guess these types of posts, with incoherent logic just get to me, that's all.
