42% of Israelis believe God created man
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 01:51 PM by bemildred
Over 42% of Israelis believe God created man, while 31% have the opinion that man was created during the process of evolution, a new poll has revealed.

---

It showed that 55% of secular Jews believe in the process of evolution, in comparison with 10% of traditionalists and only 1% of religious Jews.

---

Surprisingly, the results are nearly identical to a similar poll carried out in the United States three years ago. According to a Gallop survey, 45% of Americans believed in the following statement: “God created man, more or less in his current physical shape in the past 10,000 years”.

Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 02:16 PM by ooglymoogly
in the civilization they live and very dangerous should they try to force their beliefs on others. witness the buying and outright gifts of most free radio frequencies in the us by fundamentalist groups under the powell fcc deregulation.

9. but don't you see
imo thats why we invaded iraq and why we may at some point invade iran. the fundamentalists in isreal are almost at one with their counterparts in the u.s., they believe in a literal translation of the bible and that the day of reckoning is upon us. again imo thats why they do not want to concede stolen arab lands. because after amageddon and holecost jesus is about to return to earth, armageddon which they are trying mightily to bring about so jesus can return to earth. this message "the day of reckoning is upon us" has been on sandwitch boards on 42 and 8th ave and their counterparts all over the world from the dark ages. usually these people were chalked up as fools and cranks. today it is a whole new ballgame with televangelists and the like owning the air waves... and fundamentalist fools just keep on trying to destroy everything around them in hopes of bringing on armageddon, but now they have weapons of mass destruction at their desposal....scary scenario huh

3. I dont see that the question was the same.
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 02:03 PM by bullimiami
It does state that the American question was ; god created man more or less as he is now in the last 10,000 years.

It does not say how the questions were posed in Israel.
So we really dont know anything, do we?

Posed the right way the question of creation and evolution are not incompatible.

4. imo to assume that a supreme intelligence
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 02:07 PM by ooglymoogly
gods or whatever collective or otherwise did not materialize the universe through the process of evolution i think is short sighted.
beyond time there has to be a reality totally beyond our grasp of reality. now the people who believe in 6 day creationism in our present understanding of time, we can dismiss as just ignorant brainwashed fools. but who really knows how evolution was initiated and what crated the elements for it to begin. and so that is to say 42% of irealis are fools and that makes the world a very dangerous place as i think history is bearing out.

5. and man made money and toasters, so therefore God made money and toasters.

I would think God would be more interested in how God (purportedly) most noteworthy creation is destroying God's planet and each other, rather than observing how we all think God made us, where and when and how. :eyes:

7. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
"45% of Americans believed in the following statement: “God created man, more or less in his current physical shape in the past 10,000 years”.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? Jesus, protect us from your idiot followers!! Why are people so dumb? It makes me sooo angry! OK, evolution isn't the same thing as the theory of creationism so i don't see why this quesiton is always asked. You can still believe a God created life and the universe and set evolution in motion. But for 45% of people to agree that we are only 10,000 years old???? Where were these idiots in science class?????

10. Actually, no it is not serious.
The 45% number is 10% too low! According to the very recent CBS poll. Read it for more absurd things the american people think (like 37% wanting creationism to replace evolution in schools... includes 25% of Kerry voters and a whopping 45% of Bush voters)

God created humans in present form
All Americans
55%
Kerry voters
47%
Bush voters
67%

8. And there are 25.6% of declared atheists in Israel.
As compared to the 3% in the US. Which leaves 97% of Americans believing in a fantasy or another.

12. It does make sense. It is more comforting to believe so.
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 03:55 PM by valis
Think about it. Many people cannot cope with reality. When things look bleak, it is very comforting to believe humans were created by God... I'm glad I'm immune to the God mental virus, for some reason.
