SACRAMENTO BEE: Arrogance returns
The Sacramento Bee
Last Updated 12:03 pm PST Friday, November 26, 2004

(The Sacramento Bee) - One of the appealing features of the 1994 Republican Contract with America was the call to "restore accountability to Congress" and "end its cycle of scandal and disgrace." The very first item was to "require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress."
An internal party rule adopted in those heady days was that Republican Party leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives had to step down if indicted for any crime that carried a prison sentence of two or more years. If charges were dismissed or reduced to a misdemeanor, the member could reclaim the leadership position.

snip......

Today, the same arrogance that ended 40 years of Democratic dominance in Congress afflicts House Republicans. They may have less to fear from Democrats in 2006 than their own self-destructing, overreaching impulses.

2. Life is like riding waves. We are either on the top or bottom
I would say we are riding the crest and over we will go. May be a few years but it always happens. Each time the guy on top try to protect his rear and that is what they are doing now. Two parties running the place always makes one feel safer, believe me. I have been here a long time. Either party is bad when it runs the show.

3. As Yogi says it's deja vu all over again. I would feel much
better if those in power did the job for the good of the country instead of their own power.
