So my Grandpa is meeting with Tony Blair next week about Global Warming
Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 08:45 PM by Melodybe
I have posted before that my Gandfather is a famous scientist, his name is Wallace S. Broecker. He is a professor at Columbia and is one of, if not, the leading scientist concerning global warming.

I talked to him today and he told me about meeting Blair next week, I immediately blurted out "tell him to go to hell!" Grandpa assured me he would tell him, but he was teasing. He said that Blair is actually concerned with global warming and that he looked forward to talking to him.

We then disgussed how disappointed we were that Blair was Bush's lacky, either way I thought it was cool and thought I'd share.

I am very proud of my grandfather, he is a great guy and witty too.

I hope that Blair comes out and bashes Bush on this, it would be nice to see a big rift between the two.

2. I hope your grandfather
can talk some sense into Blair's head. Bush is, alas, a lost cause.

3. To do so would be an act of agression.
In men, aggression is a caused, in many cases, by testosterone. Testosterone is manufactured in the gonads.

Seeing as Tony has none, I do not expect him to speak out in an Indian Restaurant to order a curry, much less take Dear Leader on about anything.

4. He certainly IS famous,
a Tyler laureate, no less. Coincidentally, I talk about him every day! I'm a tour guide in Manhattan and I take double-decker busloads of tourists past Columbia a couple of times a day. Your grandfather is one of the people I tell them about. :)

BTW, global warming seems to be the one area where Blair isn't bending over for *.

Out of seven grandkids, I'm the dumb one, with an IQ of 136.

Grandpa is too cool, I don't get to talk to him to much, mainly just on holidays but when we visit my grandparents in NJ we always have a good time.

Funny things about grandpa, he drives way to fast and has a mannequin with a neanderthal head in a sequin evening gown with a button that says "Darwin was right" in his office.

I am totally proud.

5. I would say, "cool!"
.... but isn't that just what your grandfather's theory suggests will happen (disruption to the ocean circulation, etc.)!

I bet that the researchers at East Anglia are also warning him about this (they've been looking at global warming impacts too). Blair isn't a stupid man, and I hope that hearing from Dr. Broecker himself will make an impression.

6. Blair has been bashing Bush on this...
...I'm almost certain. From what I've read, despite Blair's pushing it, Bush ain't buying it.

8. Blair thinks he can "influence" GW.
Like how he told us he would get progress on Palestine in return for sending British troops for death, winning over several MPs. He said he could get the UN on board. He said he could be a "moderating" influence on Bush in Iraq. His influence there turned out to be a pipe dream. Blair does care about global warming - he has just been fabulously duped by Bush. He's been utterly fucked over, and he knows it, but he can't cut the cord without looking like a total loser (like his ratings aren't rock bottom already). He so desperately wants a scrap from master's table, it's pathetic.

9. I though about that myself, that maybe he is pretending to
give a rat's ass about global warming to pacify the brits that are so pissed at him.

After grandpa gets back I'll tell you what grandpa thought of him, and his intentions.

12. Best of luck to him...but
compared to peak oil, global warming will be a minor inconvenience, as far as humans are concerned. Combine the two, and the future's so dark, we better bring flashlights.

13. I'd never heard of your grandfather but
now I have and will keep an eye out for his progress.

Thankfully, there are people like him who can see what is happening to our Planet with all the man made pollution.

How Cool is that to have a famous scientist for a granddad!?

14. He should tell Blair to hold the US to the same standards
Applied by the US to the Ukraine regarding voter fraud. All world leaders should consider the election illegitimate until the fraud allegations are fully investigated just as the US is attempting with the Ukraine.

"Fundamental flaws in Ukraine's presidential election process subverted its legitimacy," the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, sponsored by the Democratic Party in the United States, declared in its preliminary report. The institute, cited "systematic intimidation, overt manipulation and blatant fraud" that were "designed to achieve a specific outcome irrespective of the will of the people."
